Hi Rachel, from South AUstralia. Traditional burgers here have had beetroot on them for decades, the trend away from it has come in more recent years, probably because MD's etc don't do it.

I think I would love Sth Aust but I don't like the McD influences over here either. We got burgers for the teens at the local greasy spoon and the burgers wer little buns and soft as they were untoasted. Inside was a meat pattie, tomato sauce and a hint of lettuce and limper slice of tomato, without onion rings, beet, or grated carrot. These kids are big polynesian boys, ready for league, so were still hungry after their miserable snack sized morsels.

Yes they do in Oz Rachel... a burger with the works has tinned beetroot. the very odd occasion I would have one, finding you have to wrap your face around them, put up with wearing it on your 'shelf 'or lap..or all over your cheeks..messy darn things..( ex is expert and lived on them and meat pies LOL when away from home)I insist on it and raw onion. AND Mac Donald's serve it on their burgers if asked for as extra..

I am still giggling over Sylke's explanation of cookies, bikkies, skones and sconns, sandwiches ( and packing????).. interesting it is, how all food is 'created' in different recipes in all countries..and taste prefs.. the thought of any sweetened breads with meals or dessert first makes me grimmace..LOL :?

jj I think the Americans believe they created the term 'sandwich' hehe...they have never heard of the Earl of Sandwich, creator of aforesaid 'anything slammed between two slices of bread'...

There are often documentaries on television which biographise :?: (time for me to git on home) .. ice cream, hamburgers, Chinese Food (an American icon), etc....nothing came from Europe... or anywhere else.

jj, if they knew how to make it you can be sure they would claim it as their own invention just as the Aussies have done!

No Cyberchook, the pavlova is a NZ dessert. A woman in Rangiora, not far from Christchurch, had her created dessert first published in a recipe book, way back in the late 20's or early thirties. You can't pinch THAT from us Chooky!!!!! Lucky!

Count all your blessings. the ones that cost you no money.
