Julie and Julia 2 Years, 2 Months ago
KKKKKKate and I saw this tonight. Great movie!
Fantastic for those of us who love food ~ and who among us doesn't? ~ and cooking.
And two lovely love stories to boot, particularly that between Julia Child (Meryl Streep's character) and her gorgeous (in looks and nature) Paul.
Every woman deserves a Paul.
I'll be seeking out (googling) JuliA's recipes, more info about the JuliE blog and more info about the letters Paul apparently wrote giving insight into his relationship with Julia Child.

I've seen it and ordered some books from the library about her. Apparently this year is her 40th anniversary for mastering the art of French cooking - her first book.

I have to add my bit to Suse's. It was a lovely movie.... one of those which thoroughly 'entertained " you from start to finish. It was lovely to come out of a theatre actually feeling that "Good !"
You would not have have to be a "foodie' to completely enjoy this movie... there are two stories within the story, and while food features quite promently , the stories are quite delightful as well. And yep... that Paul was a very charming character Indeed he was !.
We went and ate from a Chinese buffet after the film and , and as I poked my sweet and sour pork and flied lice around my plate, I have to confess, that in my heart of hearts, I was sighing , "now, if only this were Boeuf Bourguignonne ." I do so love French Cuisine.

Oh.... and by the way Suse, you know how surprised we both were, to see Meryl Streep looking so tall ?
I did some research, and I discovered that in fact, as we previously both thought, she is not that tall in reality. Only 5' 6" in fact. Julia Childs on the other hand was rather an amazon of a woman... 6 ' 2" tall in her stockinged feet. Now they would have had to have pulled every trick in the book to elongate Meryl to fit the part ... amazing what you can do with 'effects' isn't it ? I guess all those bench tops she was working at on the site, were set very low. I couldn't see anything on how tall Stanley Tucci really is, but he appeared considerably shorter than her in the movie , as Paul didn't he. I am looking forward to her next release, "It's Complicated. " Great casting in that, and the trailer indicated another one worth waiting for I think. Actually, I don't think I have ever seen Meryl Streep in a dud movie. Not that I have seen them all, but I am sure I have seen the best of them.

Back again... Stanley Tucci is as I thought, only a couple of inches taller that Meryl Streep in reality. The difference in height was no where near as pronounced in The Devil Wears Prada. And that answered the other question I had... what had I seen him in before ? Also The Terminal with Tom Hanks - I enjoyed that movie when I saw it as well, but... somehow, he didn't seem as delightfully charming in those other movies as he did last as the suave Paul, the Diplomat last night ... hehe... ...

You girls sound quite besotted with the delicious oops delightful Paul, as I was. Yummy! He reminds me of Ben Kingsley. I thought Meryl Streep was amazing as Julia Child. She had her off pat, especially those ungainly movements and that voice!

Funnily enough, I went to another movie on Monday. I love movies, but I don't go for weeks and weeks at a time, and then suddenly last week, I went on both Saturday and again on Sunday.
The movie I went to on Monday was also a very good movie and one I have no qualms about reccommending It was heart rendingly powerful and anyone going to see "My Sister's Keeper," should please be advised that you will need to take a box of tissues with you. It is based on one of Jody Piccoult 's books and was produced by the same producer of The Notebook so it is a quality production.
There were only 5 women in the whole the theatre that morning and we all cried . We didn't all go together, but we certainly all cried together.
