Oh I love cook books!! Hubby says I can't buy anymore until I start using the ones I have so when I make up my shopping for this Sunday, I am going to pick out a couple of recipes from a book and make them and every week I will pick out a different book....

If we are facing in the right direction, all we have to do is keep on walking.

There is an Australian mag. called Super Food Ideas available here at a fairly reasonable price. Under $4 which is excellent for a good quality glossy paper magazine full of great and tempting photography. I don't buy them every time, but I did get the September issue and it features a section of speedy family meals on a budget. Many of them are pasta and I don't mind them myself, but hubby protests a bit of 2 pasta meals in one week. Being an old fashioned meat and 3 vege sort of bloke that he is. For working mum's of young families though, there are a lot of healthy meal recipes which do not stretch the budget too far. We had some baked mince rissoles from this magazine for our dinner the other night, and Grumpy enjoyed them even in spite of the grated zucchini that was in them . Baked on an oven rack was a healthier option for cooking them than usual fried version.

I tried the New York Cheesecake recipie from my mag... it was the best baked cheescake I have ever made! The taste test will come tomorrow at my daughter's BBQ..lol... but I did forget to put the vanilla in, so am hoping the lemon will take care of that!

Your Super Food Ideas book could well be the same book Mime...sure sounds like it but with a different name!

Janann... this book is a mag so he won't kniow the difference...hopefully
Now if anyone wants a recipe for the biggest, best banana cake, let me know...I'll put in the Recipie section somewhere, if you do..

Has anyone got the latest Essentially Food Magazine? Teh Aug. /Sept issue. The one that has a picture of stack of delicious looking Chocolate Chip slice on the front cover ? Well, they don't just LOOK delicious. I was looking for something to do for my lovely neighbour today, who did me a favour and would not take payment for it. So, I made these and sampled them of course. Was quite pleased to get shot of them actually - they would have resulted in more padding on my already over resplendent hips for I know I would have been going back and back to that tin.
I only bought that mag because of them in the first place. Yum Yum , pigs bum! I am happy now that I have made and tried them !.

There are some delectable delights in the Essential book.... how about this one which has been a firm family favourite here for a number of years which I found while sitting in the doctors waiting room.

2 cups of cream
a tin of condensed milk
3 crunchie bars
1 teaspoon of vanilla

Beat the cream until it is thick and add the vanillia and condensed milk.
Mix well.
Stir in the chopped or crumbled bars.
Freeze.

You can get very adventuresome with this... I have used a tin a caramel instead of condensed milk. I have used moro bars, cherry ripes, chopped up gummy bears or snakes, marshmellows, chopped fresh strawberries, blueberries, chocolate chips, rum essence, brandy essence, banana essence and not all at the same time preferably. The flavours are only as limited as the imagination and this amount makes 2 litres of ice cream. Sometimes I will halve it and make it different flavours and everytime the family come to eat they ask if I made some ice cream.

Oh my goodness.. I just found your recipe here Mizbiz. That does sound extremely naughty , but nice. I go for naughty and I go for nice... so I am going to buy some Crunchie Bars and spice up my life.
And what could be easier to do. Actually the hardest part just now, will be making room for it in the freezer !

I know this is a really old thread ~ and, as one who was totally spooked by seeing (my name on) a really old thread on RW this past week ... it feels odd to be posting but ...

I recently had the fortune of being "gifted" 500 foodie mags by a Food Tech Teacher friend who is going overseas. She was about to consign these treasures to students for cutting up (that is, using for pictures for projects). I interjected and "volunteered" to take them off her hands. So, have had a delicious salivating week of visually devouring the following magazines: Delicious (Australian and rather highbrow), Taste (kiwi ~ yes!!!), Cuisine (kiwi), Foodtown (kiwi, yes!!!), Dish (okay), Donna Hay (Australian ~ cookbooky), Healthy Food Guide (kiwi ~ great!) … So, ripped dozens of pages from my favourites, have lent the boxes of mags to neighbours for ripping, then will return the cartons of mags to school to students to use for their projects.

I will now think about buying Taste & Foodtown ~ though, better still, will try to photocopy recipes from library copies. I already buy the Healthy Food Guide which is brilliant.

I do lots of cooking/baking these days ~ all thanks to having an appreciative sampler in Mr Suse as well as a paid outlet via his business. My alltime favourite and much-referred-to reference point is trademe recipe board (via the community part of TM) and, particularly, trademecooks.co.nz.

Go for it Suse..... hehe.... found your way to his heart have you ? I wonder what he did to find his way to yours then ?
Obviously things are still simmering along nicely - add a bit spice and a bit of sugar and a splash of wine and you could end up with something really hot and saucy... Oh lala!
