Hmmmmmmm, we have certainly found the winning formula KKKaty.

For Christmas I was given a Borders voucher and have been exploring (via free reads in the coffee shop therein) what I might buy. Think I will go for the 4 Ingredients cookbook.

Which reminds me of an absolutely easy and delish recipe for a quick cake or desert (latter served with yoghurt) ~ and only 3 ingredients!!

2 cups SR flour
I cup sugar
440g tin of crushed pineapple ~ though you can use boysenberries or apple or any other tinned fruit ~ either in syrup or (healthier version) natural juice

Mix and bake at 180 for 40 mins, preferably in a ring tin.

I only buy Recipes Plus once a month.

Very similar to Food magazine.

I love their easy peasy budget style recipes, all with Cooks tips,...for substituting ingredients, ..or storing,.. or baking tips.

Beautiful pictures too,.....well styled photography.

Yummmmmmmmmmm.

However, I hoard & can't resist, buying cheap, second hand recipe books. Mostly older ones that are not printed now, but still have those classic recipes of old we still love,.... to bake & eat!

Count all your blessings. the ones that cost you no money.

I don't know if this makes me a bit weird but while I quite like books with photos and stuff for browsing, I LOVE those older style books with no photos. It's like reading the book instead of going to the film, they leave more to the imagination. Also, bonus opportunity, there is no pressure fo the recipe to run out the same way as in the photo! hehhe. I've got so many cookbooks, Ive had a three tier shelf built into ma lovely new kitchen!

I have been given about half a dozen cookbooks, other than ones that specialise in kiwi tucker, most of them were only good for one recipe or so.

My go to website is www.recipezaar.com over a quarter of a million recipes and literally dozens of ways to filter them. You can do it by cuisine, nutritional value, difficulty, number of ingrediants, diet/vegetarian/vegan, time to make, ingrediant....

The only thing that it doesn't do to my satisfaction is a good hot authentic curry. I am currently tackling Indian cuisine, does anyone know a good website?

There is certainly a wealth of good recipe sites to found on the web Elizabeth and I am sure that will include some great Indian dishes as well, only I have not personally tried any of them, so cannot recommend.
Having spent some time in India a few years ago, I can tell you that I enjoyed some wonderful cuissine while there .What I do recommend is that you find yourself a good Aisian supermarket near where you live, where you can source your spices etc. For, the secret I believe is to buy the spices fresh and blend them yourself as required. Often some of the pre-packed , pre- ground stuff sold in our supermarkets, have already lost a lot of the aroma and flavours by the time we purchase them.
Good luck ! Come back and let us know how you get on.

No need for recipe books at all if you have a computer. When we did our kitchen up, I got rid of all of my books, and have never missed them . Most of the family favorites are in my head anyway, but for anything different I try out dishes I have seen in magazines or turn to the web. We get plenty of variety and any recipe that I wish to do again, I just store in a clear file . They can be bought cheaply and just wiped clean after use and store neatly in a drawer. I used to have draws jammed with newspaper and magazine cuttings and a shelf full of splattered tatty old books. Not any more.
