Cyberchook, do I sense your disapproval in Sylke's food choice of, dare I say it, kangaroo? Yearinan, tabbouli is a favourite in our house too. It's so quick and easy. I like the sound of your cutlets too. I hate to say it but we had a Chinese takeaway last night. Not so healthy, I know, but we always ask them to cook it in as little oil as possible, so that's at least a teensy bit better.

Yearinan,

Thank you for the recipes! I did have a tabbouli recipe but heaven only knows where it's got to, so I'll print off yours for future making.

I've seen sumac at a local middle eastern food store but have never tried it. I've bought za'atar and ras-el-hanout from them in the past but for some reason haven't got around to trying sumac. Must do. Man, I love middle eastern food! I often rub lamb steaks with a spice mix but almost never use olive oil as it smokes up the kitchen and sets off the smoke detector.

Cyberchook,

My husband was trying to talk me into getting kangaroo the other night. A friend of his told him it's great. I had to tell the poor man I can't do it. I just can't.

I won't bother mentioning what I had last night as it was pretty mundane really. Tonight I have some friends coming so all day in my crock pot there has been cooking a piece of pickled pork in fruit & cider. This I will serve with a horseradish cream sauce I whipped up a little while ago. I have hasselback potato, glazed carrots, leek in white sauce and hot spiced beetroot for vege. To follow they have a choice of raspberry & chocolate cheesecake or Apple Strudel with cream. I have a couple of bottles of a very nice wine to go with that, and I am looking forward to being able to relax with friends and not have to drive home afterwards. The sad part is saying farewell to some lovely friends who are moving down to Timaru to be near their grandkids. I can understand that.

Love Kangaroo meat!! We lived on it for several years and get the most beautiful pepper steaks from friends who own a processing plant an hour or so north of here. It is a little gamier than beef, but on a par with buffalo. We are the only country to eat our national fauna emblem. Would love to try horse but that seems less acceptable here in Oz.

*chortle* Aw.. there really isnt a 'chortle' smiley..Hmmm.
Chooks.. Im sorry if I offended you. It was rather delish. I didnt eat vry much of it...really I didnt. So deprived am I for the finer things in life I gulped down a glass of the most divine Merlot and really focussed more on that...
I tried it for the first time last year. It was too rich for me and I guess I was a bit reluctant as well. This year Im back in my 'risk taking' modus operandi and so I went all in. There wasnt very much anyway.. very ladylike portions.

Tonight for dinner I had a box. I work late on a Thursday and start early on a Friday. Dont want to cook a meal (actually Im not permitted to cook in our kitchen. . . don't ask just understand why Im leaving)..
so late at night...so took a little Healthy Choice out of the freezer...Mandarin Chicken! Very nice.....
