Ovary problems?? 6 Years, 1 Month ago
Just wondering if anyone has had problems with cysts on ovaries. They've found one on mine and I have to have the ovary removed. I've been having lots of menopausal problems and I'm hoping having this removed will help along with D & C. Sick of the whole thing really. Anyone else had this done?? Would appreciate feedback 8) 8)[/code]

Pozzie , yes I have had a problem like this but it was 25 years ago now, so everything will have changed I guess re the way they operate and treat . I started missing periods, suffering bad back aches and discomfort while still in my 30's but the Dr always found a logical sounding explanation for the symptoms because other factors in my life at that time. Eventually though my situation changed but the symptoms still continued and the Dr finally agreed there could be something more and the something more turned out to be an enormous ( by this time) cyst on my left ovary. I ended up with a complete hysterectomy and was about 5 kg lighter overnight. I was told that most cysts are full of fluid, but mine was something different , was solid through and hard as a rock and there were some malignant cells present in my uterus which were the reason a full hysterectomy was done at the time. I doubt that this has any relevance to your personal case. I know someone younger who recently had a non malignant cyst removed and is not so much better , with regular periods and no more problems or signs of pre menapausal symptoms at all. Her other ovary is functioning normal, and she is happy. Good luck and try not to worry tooo much . I am sure you will be well again in no time.

Hi KKK-Katy and thanks for your response. I thought there may be a few more women out there with the same problem. I am grateful for your feedback. I have a lot of back aches and often get scared as my dad used to suffer with back aches and it turned out he had bowel cancer. My cyst is apparently the size of a golf ball. I also have fibroids so they are going to check out my uterus as well. I really would have preferred to have a full hysterectomy but they seem loathe to do it. Don't know why at my age. I'm 52. I've had hormone problems for 20 years or more so I guess you could say I've had enough!! Anyway, my surgery is scheduled for 11 May so I'll keep you posted!!

Good luck Pozzie with your surgery.. not long to go now, and hopefully it will be a turning point in your health. Don't quite understand either why they are so loatheto do a complete hysterectomy. At 52, one would have thought that it would be extremely unlikely that you would be wanting a pregnancy. Perhaps you will wake up post op. to be told that they have done it anyway... that was how it was with me. I already had 4 children so it was not a problem to me.. and in fact the removal of the worry of another possible pregnancy really inhanced our relationship.

Good on you Pozzie... you will feel a new woman with this behind you. Often the thought of the operation is worse than it actually is. The xcary part is knowing that you are going to be "out to it" and are surrending all control over what is happening to you, to someone else... None of like that, do we girls? Doesn't matter what sort of an operation it is, we like to be awake to what is going on around us all of the time. Oh... I don't mean that literally... Cripes, we want the anaesthetic to work! Anway, by Sunday, you will be wondering why you gave yourself such grief. All the best!!!

Hi Pozzie, just wondering how it went for you and if you are home being well looked after? Hope it went smoothly, it must be nice to be on the other side of it.
I am facing surgery in the future and boy I'm sure the thought of it is more scary than the real thing (well I hope so!)

Take care and would love to hear how you are doing.

Hi KKK-Katy and Roseyone
Thanks so much for your kind thoughts. Well it's all over. And it wasn't a cyst on the ovary at all!! It was on my fallopian tube. So it's been removed and I still have my ovaries. They did a D&C and hysteroscopy and I have to await results of those. I came through it okay. A bit sick after the anaesthetic - came home the next day.
Anyway, I've had a period just about ever since and that's getting me down a bit. Don't know how long that is supposed to last. I thought I would only get spotting but it's just like a normal period. Hopefully it will not be around for too much longer. I may have to ring the doctor!!
I've been pampered all week by my hubby who has been looking after me. I am also having another week off work - just for some R&R..
I am going to aim for better health and losing weight. I am also going to look for a part-time job - I'm working full-time and don't like it much.
Thanks again ladies for your kind thoughts......
