Does anyone else have Psoriasis? 5 Years, 10 Months ago
Hi ladies,

Just wondering if anyone out there has Psoriasis. I have had it since I was a teenager and I think I've tried everything in the book. Not to mention several dermatologists who can offer no help at all. There must be something out there that can help. It's a lot worse in this cold weather.

I have it!!! I have dermovate or dermol cream, it works for as long as I put in on, but as soon as I stop the psoriasis comes back. Luckily I only get it on my legs, stomach and elbows, so I can cover it up and ignore it in the winter. I just can't be bothered putting creams on all over the place twice a day, every day - I have better things to do with my life! Yep, it gets worse when it gets hotter, then gets worse when it gets colder. I found in summer that it went away whenever I regularly swam at the beach - must be that salt water.

Pozzie, goats milk is supposed to help (drinking it) and having a bath with oats in the water. Ive read this in a very old self help book and some new ones.

Is this anything like eczema?? I have that on my ankle but have to put cream on it as it really gets bad. Heat with it is even worse. Did you come up with anything yet pozzie. Hope so.

How closely related are the two conditions? Dtr has something similar on ankle, knees and elbows. Won't use the cream all the time for the same reason as you Pozzie, we did notice it cleared considerably with swimming in chlorinated pool, maybe its just the sunlight?

Delta,

Still don't know the difference in the two conditions but the pool water being treated does clear some of it up as when we had the pool it really did do a lot of good. Maybe will help your dtr again along with Pozzie. worth a try.

I have it too. On my scalp (I can produce enough dandruff for a small country!).In recent years I have also developed patches on my arms, back and the back of my hips. It is unsightly but like Grace I try not to let it bother me too much, at least I don't have it on my face - yet. I work inside a factory environment for 12 hour days, have done for 9 years now and I think my skin has just got gradually worse over that time. When I have a holiday of at least 2 weeks at a time I find the condition really improves so I think sunlight really does help. I have it particularly badly behind my ears and can literally peel sheets of skin off and it can get quite weepy (really painting a lovely picture of myself here ). I have an ointment called locoid, a hydrocortisone type cream that I use when it's at it's worst. Works a treat and completely clears it up but as Grace I think it was said it comes straight back when you stop using it (I am same age as you by the way Grace.) Over the last couple of years I have taken fish oil capsules, 6 a day. I am not a very good tablet taker so I tend to do this irregularly. When I stick to this regime it really improves the condition as well. Takes the worst of the itchiness and redness away.

Grace, I too have the dermol creams and Davonex etc. etc. But I hate using cortisone creams. If you use them too long they make your skin very thin. I have Psoriasis on my arms, legs, stomach, back and scalp.

I try not to worry about it because worry only makes it worse. I know about the benefits of sunlight and saltwater. But unfortunately, because I am so fair skinned I cannot stay out in the sun very long and I am not a lover of the ocean... I lived in Queensland for 26 years and unfortunately my skin did not clear up.

Forgiven, Excema is very much like Psoriasis but not quite the same. I had Excema as a baby. Psoriasis, they tell me, can be brought on by stress or trauma and can be aggravated by some foods, although I have never found this. I am looking for a herbal creme or something similar. My hubby also has this annoying condition and in Australia we were able to buy a cream that they used for cows udders to help with the soreness they get!! It was awful stuff but it really helped. Can't seem to buy it here though.

Anwayone else with any suggestions..... by the way, thanks ladies for your help here.
