Hi Powderpuff and any others considering bariatric surgery - have you gone through with it? With any of you that have dealt with SOS in Ch Ch is there a surgeon that you would reccomend? There is at least one there now that does do gastric bypass.

There has been some media coverage this week re gastric surgery being funded by the CDHB. I have just tried to find the link on stuff.co.nz but couldn't find it.

Re: Gastric Banding 2 Years, 1 Month ago
Hi there,
I am considering Gastric Banding and i was surfing the net for some personal stories and came across you post. I am booked to go to the Southern Obesity Clinic next month and am concerned that i may get the same surgeon that you had trouble with. There are now three surgeons at the clinic and i am seeing Richard Flint. Is this the surgeon you had?
I would really put my mind at rest to know who it was. Your story was really sad and i would not want to give my money to someone who was so useless and cruel.
Hope you are doing well now and havnt had any further issues since
Hope im doing this right i joined this forum just to ask you this question!
Thanks
Megan

Hi Megan - I think you will find it was not Richard Flint. I asked the question myself and got no reply so you are not likely to. I have seen Richard and I found him to be a very caring and empathetic person - several have found the same and I think you would be in very safe hands with him.
All the best with whatever you choose. Oh and at SOS there are three surgeons not two who do the ops.

Megan - I just realized it was you who mentioned there are 3 surgeons so you know that already!
I would highly suggest you join the wls.co.nz forum and go along to one of the monthly support meetings in Ch Ch - the last one had about 26 people and everyone shared their story and talked about where they were at, pre and post op and there were photo albums to look through - it was quite an amazing group of people really - several there had ops or were about to have ops through sos. Also under opinions on the trademe message board there is a good long running thread about weight loss surgery.
