CT scan of sinus anyone? 2 Years, 3 Months ago
I saw a specialist today as a follow up to an appointment with a ENT surgeon. I have a pollopy thing up my nose and he tried burning it of to cauterize it but it made no difference. This next specialist wants me to have a CT scan of the area to rule out anything sinister (his words not mine!). He kept saying it's very red and crusty - yummy!
So his bed side manner was appalling and he grunted that I may be 2 heavy for the scan machine! He ordered a nurse to weigh me and it was all a bit embarrassing really.
I thought because it is just my head, won't they only put my head in? I cannot stand enclosed spaces and have only just managed to cope with lifts without hyperventilating! Has anyone else had one of these? I better stop rambling on now

Oh FFS!

Is there no end to the indignity/insults/pathetic responses we women of substance should ensure?

We are talking about an issue of your nose.

Noses are noses. People far far far smaller than we might have far far far larger noses.

If they do not have processes and procedures that allow for scanning NOSES, they have a problem, their processes are lacking, they are derelict in their duty.

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

I am so OVER this "blame it on them/their weight" mentality. How come the WHOLE BODY, okay perhaps a larger-than-norm body, must be scanned to determine an issue with the nose? If "they" ~ the medical profession ~ are so limited in their ability to diagnose NOSE issues then they have a problem and we, their consumers, have significant issues of concern.

A CT Scan is usually over within minutes,..so really no cause for claustrophobia there Roseyone.

I imagine it will be a whole body ...just to rule out any *nasties* as he said.

Modern technology is wonderful, & straight after the scan, you'll be so thankful for it.

A CT scan machine is like donut, open at both ends.

Control your breathing evenly, & you'll be O.K.

However, an MRI mcahine is like a very small submarine.

I once was enclosed in one for 45 minutes, & it took some doing on my part to fight claustrophobia!!!!

Count all your blessings. the ones that cost you no money.

It's just the way the machine works Roseyone. You lie on a table and get moved into a space where they scan you. You can take a CD or IPOD of your favourite music to take your mind off things. And tell the staff how you feel. Another option is to ask your doctor to prescribe a sedative but that's pretty heavy handed. There are lots of websites you can check out Roseyone but here is one: http://hcd2.bupa.co.uk/fact_sheets/html/ctscan.html
Sometimes our fears can be allayed by knowing what we are facing. Hope this helps and good luck. Remember how lucky we are to have things like CT scanners to help diagnose things. It's not too long ago that there was much more guesswork involved in the lack of hard evidence and not nearly as many "nasties" were able to be picked up. And not so many people (like yourself) were able to be reassured that all is okay.

Thanks for your thoughts ladies, Suse I am over the bad attitude from the Dr, realistically he must have felt that I would exceed the weight limit for the machine and you come across people with bad bedside manners every day so it's his problem not mine
AJ - thanks for that, I sort of thought that just your head would poke in and out of the machine. I find it very hard to lie flat on my back because of my damaged back/neck and also the weight of my tummy on my chest - ha ha that does not sound right but perhaps you know what I mean. It is very amazing the medical technology available to us now, and for that I am great- full. Now I am not going to spend any more time in worry about it, and wait until the app arrives and just get on with it!

I don't know how I missed this thread before - as a sinus sufferer myself, it should have jumped out at me.
So Roseyone luv, how did you get on ? Did you have your CT Scan ?
I would also be interested if anyone has found any home remedy that has been pariculary helpful for treating almost continual nasal congestion .
I am sick of using the nasal spray that the doctor gives me. It helps for as long as you are using it, but once stopped I find tha I am very quickly all clogged up again. It is horrid when I wake every morning all chokked up with a mucuos from my head , nose etc, sitting in my throat. Revolting... I will stop now.
It says on the literature with the sprays, that there should not be prolonged useage. Which is why I ask if there is anything else that anyone can recommend please.
And Roseyone, I have not seen you on here of late, so I do hope that you are A.O.K ???

I too would love to know an alternative to the nasal spray. I know they say use for up to 5 days but if I did that I would have to buy a new bottle every week. If I don't use them I suffer like Kate - the description is very appropriate!
Hope you are ok Roseyone

Oh it is soooooooooo nice to be missed !! Life just got busy as it does.
I had my scan last week and it went really well, and had lovely scanner person with me. I got an letter with an app soon to go back and see the specialist so I guess all will be revealed then - I have a sneaky feeling that they failed to detect any brain activity????
