Re: If your Great Grandmother 1 Year, 4 Months ago
I love this idea and am trying to put it into practice. I'm looking at getting a breadmaker so that I can make my own bread but it needs to be a small one or if someone has an easy oven recipe (and I mean easy) I would love to give it a go.

I have a Wellbilt bread machine and an Oster Expressbake that my friend gave me because she didn't like it. The Expressbake is definitely smaller than the Wellbilt.

I willl dig out the recipe that I use for baking in the oven. Nothing beats fresh bread right from the oven.

We are eating the soft grain varieties and really limiting how much we consume. The breadmaker broke some years ago and that was a blessing because we would sit and eat the lot.

Thanks Jannan. Apart from the delicious taste, and the yummy smell of freshly baked, or baking bread, there is something very therapeutic, soothing and calming about kneading dough. I think that in the very bush daily lives of great grandmothers, the time taken to make the daily loaves, must have been their time of relaxating and satisfaction . That, and milking the cow. There was so much for them to do in a day, but some jobs you just could not rush . The bread dough would rise in its own good time, and kneading well a part of perfecting the end product. My grand mother said her mum taught all 7 of her daughters to do the bread. She used to say that they loved to milk the house cow too as kids. It was warm leaning against her, and you had peace to think and dream your own thoughts and no one yelled at you for fear of making the cow skittish and causing her to kick over the bucket. They were not so fond of churning the butter though. It used to take ages, she said, and " our poor little arms would be all but dropping off ! "

I have had to leave bread in the freezer and just take a slice or two as I need them - I can eat a loaf in one sitting!!!

I dont know when chickens and pigs were introduced to Samoa but I think my great grandparents lived mostly on fish and greens. I love fish and veges... and other stuff too but I do enjoy eating less processed foods since jumping on my health and fitness journey.

I have developed a new addiction.

Sourdough bread. Just flour salt & water.
It is as old as the Roman Legions if not older.
I am addicted to the taste
I am addicted to the work.
I can be dead on my feet & spot the dough jar,
realize I need to make bread & I am full of energy.

I mix with dough hooks but knead as well
Raise over night set for most of the day.
Bake in a hot oven.
Indulge my addiction.

To kill time try working it to death.
