Hormone Inbalance 5 Years, 9 Months ago
Does anyone suffer from or have any advice on dealing with Hormone Inbalances ? My major problems are PCOS and Endometriosis. I have "finally" had two children so I'm done with the fertility problem side of things, but would lnow like to deal with all the other issues that go with having out of kilter hormones.

There are many women on this RW site who suffer from PCOS and all have their own tips.

I also suffer from this condition , and like you, I have jad two children and am now done with the fertility thing. My GYN Specialist has put me on Estelle(the pill) which I haven't taken in nearly 10 years because my problem is that I dont have enough of the right "girly" hormones in my body. I have been on it for two weeks now so it is too early to tell yet if it is the answer.

I also have an appointment coming up with an Endocrinologist in two weeks time so no doubt I will be doing more tests. I will let you know how that goes, if it helps, and what the long term prognosis is.

Sorry I cant give you answers right now.

Tiarn, if you do a search on the internet you will probably find that there are websites just for PCOS and endometriosis with support groups attached. I know there is one for PCOS, called something Sisters, but I don't have the website addy any more.

Hi Tiarn

Well, I had my appointment this week with the Endocrinologist. I have now had a battery of blood tests done and am awaiting the results. Also, I am booked in to have a MRI brain scan next week. I am being positive about this as the Endo thinks that my raised Prolactin levels may be a "red Herring" for other problems. One of the reasons for high prolactin levels is possibly a Pituatury Tumour (which is only ever benign, not as serious as it sounds) and can be treated with medication or surgery.

I will keep you posted once next Tuesday has passed.

Hi girls I went through so many of these too in the days when it was not labelled.. just called infertility.. I know there are many more aids to help today.. but I empahtise with you all..it is a 'bluddi' wicked thing.. PCOS hormones, piturity, all seems to run hand in hand.

The only thing I had that was 'normal' was menapause..believe it..started at 53 and apart from stacking on extra kgs. I had about 5 years of sweaty flushes and few side effects....charming eh.. all that wasted unknown quantity of youth, weird drugs ( asthmatic as well)..
But I am determined to be a really very, very nice old, old lady in about 20 years oh my..is that all there is? hock:

Hiya - I'm 22 and I've been diagnosed with PCOS (high testosterone levels). I've been put on Estelle as well - net that it seems to really do much, but it has lowered my free testosterone levels. I was referred on to an endo at the beginning of this year and was essentially told to go away and lose weight - am now down to 77kg from 85kg - heading back to endo in mid-October, and suspect won't be anywhere near target of 70kg by then!!

Don't really want to go there, be charged $120 for a half hour consultation and be told to go away and lose more weight again

Tiarn - it may pay to see and endocrinologist as they are hormone specialists and tend to know their way around these things...
www.soulcysters.com is an awesome site for anyone with PCOS - everyone there is really supportive, the woman who started up the site, Kat Carney, also has PCOS and managed to get her weight down and most of her symptoms have disappeared! She also regularly posts on the boards and helps to answer any questions you have.
