I used to get my nails done quite regularly until I got a nasty, nasty nail infection. It took about 2 months of being on medication before it finally cleared up. Since then, I have not had them done in a salon. I have gotten quite good at doing my own, though.

Interesting thread in more than one way. I have never had my nails professionally done. Have often thought that I must surely be the only woman in the country who has not. Proffessional nails are on the unaffordable luxury list on my income. I have often consoled myself by thinking that it probably is not good for my liver, ingesting the chemicals through my extremities. I manage to keep my nails presentable just by giving them a quick buffing two or three time a week. I also have long since given up trying to grow them long, and shorter they are much stronger. One thing which I cannot afford to economise on is my hair so what I save by doing my nails I spend on going to a really, really good hair stylist and I also have to travel further afield to visit my Stylist.
I am intrigued as to how a visitor to the site can post here as "Anonymous" ? I understood one had to join and be a member before posting? But when reading the previous posts it seemed clear that the poster Anonymous was perhaps not Anonymous at all. Very familiar ring to it.
But how was this possible?

That is correct. However, if you notice the date of the original posts you'll see that they are now quite old. The 'anonymous' post was either made at a time when guest posting was allowed, or it may be that the user has since been deleted and the name has reverted back on the post.

MY first nail lady Kathy was so good, I've never found her equal. She used to wash my nails twice during the process to get rid of all the gritty stuff left over from buffing, and to prevent infections. Noone I've had since does this. I miss her!!!!

Thank you Lee for satisfying my curiousity, and also Anonymous who PM'd her explanation but who wishes to remain Anonymous. I understand fully now.

I went to a spa not too long ago for their "head to toe" body massage. It was the best! First of all the room was dark...a key factor for my comfort level. She had zen music, or new age, or whatever it's called playing. First she washed my feet! In a bowl of warm, soapy water with smooth stones on the bottom of it. Then she stepped out of the room and I got onto the table and covered myself with a sheet When she returned, she started with a head massage. Coating my hair with some devine, fragrant cream. Pulling gently on my hair and massaging my head. When she was done, she wrapped my hair in a warm towel. Then came the facial, with the addition of warm steam, then worked her way down, never uncovering anything would make me uncomfortable. (I am not into nudity) She massaged my hands which I was not expecting. It was heaven! My legs, and then finally my feet. When she was done, I was so completely relaxed that had someone yelled, "FIRE!" I surely would have gone down with the ship! She assured me there was no hurry, and to take my time. There was a shower connected with the massage room, where I showered, dried my hair, reapplied a little make up, so as not to scare anyone when I went to pay and depart. It was a great experience and one that I will have again.

Re:A Spot of Pampering... 4 Years, 5 Months ago
Now I went in for a spot of pampering today. It was a very spurr of the moment thing, and Oh, boy! I can recommend it. After literally hot footing it around the shopping mall and trying to knock off my Christmas shopping, so that I do not have to go there again, this side of Christmas, my feet were sore, and puffy and dragging. I spotted a nail place and I remembered that Suse had once told me how she treats herself regularly to a foot spa and pedicure. I thought, "Why not !" It may have even been the same place you went to Suse... did you tell me Lynnmall ? Anyway, all the seats in front of the foot spa's were vacant, but there were several getting their finger hails done. I would have been disappointed if they had said no, I would need an appointment, but she nodded her head when I mentioned pedicure, and pointed me to the shelf full of nail varnish. " Choose colour please." I did. Deciding that I might be too old for my usual preference for a bright scarlet, I chose a very dark plummy one. My 'pamperer' a miniscule little Asian of some sort, bade me"sit" and pressed me back into the chair. " Low back, upper back, full back ?"
"Ugh ?"
It took me a moment to comprehend what she was saying as she waived a little control thingy at me. I was still puzzling, so she pressed a button anyway, and suddenly the back of the chair started gyrating all the way up my spine. Suddenly the penny dropped as I then recalled that Suse had previously described this experience to me too. Anyway, she grabbed my hooves and stuck them into the swirling spa . After a little while she went through all the motions of clipping, smoothing , buffing, , massaging, and finnally pummelling right up my tired and aching legs. Then, she expertly enamelled my nails. Wow... not one grunt of exhertion or discomfort did I need to make during the whole performance. And believe me, it was always a performance for me to do my own feet. Tough old nails, tummy in the way, and knees that no longer like bending very much. I lay back and and totally relaxed and she just got on with it. I suspect that the knowledge of the English language may have been somewhat limited. The girls were chatting and giggling among themselves in their own language. There have been times when I might have thought that was rather rude of them, but this time I just did not care. It was bliss. The only thing that would have made it better would have been the option to have had a nice coffee or cup of tea while this was all going on. I would have gladly paid them extra for that. Go for it Girls it was truly blissful ! I came out of there revived and walking on air. Well almost. $25 - a cheap little early Christmas pressie for moi!
