...to find something to say about this topic to change the previous unwanted one.

Ummmmmmm something about beauty...

Oooh I know... my flatmate and I are 'discussing' the differences between out tastes in decorations. I hate the $2 tacky flower arrangements she's put in the lounge so I have suggested that we take turns - month about - so that next month the feature vase will have my more tasteful touches, hehehe, its all a matter of personal taste isnt it. I need to be more tactful though.

Well you have just done what you set out to do EllieA - changed the subject I mean. That was a good idea, I have been tired of look at that some old same old too... LOL.... and you are quite right, beauty is in the eyes of the beholder.

It certainly is - and not just physical beauty either. There is beauty of spirit. Some of the plainest people have such inner beauty that you don't even notice their appearance. A good sense of humour, generosity, kindness - these are far more important than a pretty face.
Then there is nature's beauty too. I must admit that a beautiful landscape, a springtime scene with the newest and most tender green leaves just out on the trees, the glow of autumn and the filigree touch of a frost, can all bring a lump to my throat. The beauty of a wonderful piece of music or a song flawlessly sung. A work of art. The colours of a sunset. So much more. We have much to be thankful for.

How very true Lucky.
The young are so indoctrinated by the media that fashionable beauty is all that is needed.

It is so very sad because quite often great packaging is just covering a box of horse poo.

Though you try hard to show them this, it seems that it is a loosing battle.
They become hard wired to the popular yardsticks.

To kill time try working it to death.

I don't think that applies to all young people, Fey Hag. I have a 15 y.o. daughter and she and her friends are all very much into the beauty on the surface stuff but they also are great young folk on the inside too. It gives me good heart for the adults of tomorrow. Besides which some of us are just boootiful all ways, aren't we girls and us big girls are even more boootiful than most. Tee Hee.

I made the mistake of judging one of the students in my class. She is only 18 or 19, is a blonde, absolutely beautiful looking girl, very giggly, draws much attention to herself and sometimes annoying. I decided she was shallow and silly.

Well, I've since had great conversations with Vicky and she's such a lovely kid!!! And an A+ student. I was wrong. She's beautiful inside and out.

I have at times been to quick to judge too EllieA- but as long as we can admit when we were wrong, that is the main thing . I have a neighbour who is covered with tatoos. He looks quite fearsome with his shirt off in the summer, yet he is far from that. He is not, and never has been a gang member. Yet that was my first thought on meeting him. He just liked tatoos when he was young. And, a kinder, more thoughtful man you could not have as a neighbour. He admits that he now thinks that he did go overboard, and has been trying to get some of them removed in more recent times.
Talking of brains. I just cannot help but thinking of those little conjoined girls who have just been separated at the brain, in what surely must have been a record breaking time under anaesthetic. What a huge challenge that has been to all concerned, and what a beautiful woman that must have been, who rescued those kiddies from where they had been dumped, and took them to Australia to fight for them to have this chance Poor little pets. But, God wants them to survive! He must do for them to have come thus far. They have to survive!
