A Spot of Pampering... 6 Years, 1 Month ago
Today I went to one of those nail salons that are popping up all over the place (yep, ProfessioNail - the ones in the news) and had a manicure and pedicure. YUM!! I sat in a big chair that massaged my back continuously, while my feet soaked in a bubbling spa. Each foot was pampered, cleaned, massaged, my nails were cleaned up and painted. Then I moved over to the table to have my fingernails spruced up. It was so nice to be looked after, with no children demanding my time (no husband either!), and I can't stop looking at my 'nude' fingernails and seductive red toenails! Totally relaxed, I drove home and walked indoors to find that place in complete chaos - Grace Junior crying because Dad had thrown out some of her broken but much loved toys, and Mr. 8 Months Old had caught a cold while I was out (???)....... and the knots quickly re-formed in my poor shoulders. Maybe I should go back tomorrow?!

Hi Grace
I took myself off to ProfessioNail a few weeks ago, choosing it because it was in a nearby mall and wheelchair accessible and, though I enjoyed the pampering, I didn't enjoy the incredible effort of communicating with the staff. I swear they had 20 words of English between the 8 of them. It was damn hard work. Having read in yesterday's paper that this chain of shops uses the banned MMA (methyl methacrylate) I can now understand why the technicians all wore masks ... which further impeded communication.
Anyway, I did think that the massaging chair affair with foot pampering looked brilliant for my beaten scarred pins ... can't wait to indulge in a bit of that ....

For a while I ws diligent about my little Vietnamese girl doing my fill every two weeks. Nails looked great. I dont get home until 7p or later and the nail salon closes 7p M - F and 6p Sat and Sun. For past 5 weeks weekends have been as bad or I havent had the cash..Went down today to make appt for tomorrow morning and when she saw my nails - the tips poised to dive off the edge she smacked my hand. Very bad!! Some of my nails have been there since last November!!!! EVen though they have grown right up to end of nail, they wont come off in a hurry....Yuck!
$28.00 for a full set or $18 for a fill....or go to the swanky new Elizabeth Arden Salon a coupla miles down the road..$70 for a full set. But I believe its a gorgeous place. Might not take me though..am only a pleb!!!

Sylke, if that place is anything like the ones here, you know that it's so cheap because of the dangerous stuff they use on your nails, don't you? We're getting warnings here about it, apparently it's really bad for you when it absorbs into your body, causing quite a bit of damage, but it's cheaper than the safe stuff so they're continuing to use it. Look into it - wouldn't want you dropping dead all for the sake of beautiful nails! The things we do, huh?

Omg i had my nails done last week, because over the last few months i learnt to chew on the ones i had. the staff were all asians and i had a bit of trouble comunicating with the girl but she did a great job! i love my new nails and it felt so decadent sitting there while someone else fussed over me

Delta...I have to wonder what they use... indeed.

Just to give you an idea...there are what I call 'nail factories' on every block, literally. From where I live I drive 3/4 mile to my nearest stores.
UPS, Realtor, Dentist, Chinest Rest, Bagel Cafe, Bashas Supermarket, Bank of America, Wells Fargo Bank instore, Subway, Drycleaner, GolfCart store, Walgreens Pharmacy, Childrens Boutique, Hairdresser, Nail Factory. a mile down to the next intersection:
Hairdresser, CVS Pharmacy, Mexican Restaurant, Insurance Co, Realtor, Fitness Studio, Tanning Studio, Italian Pizza joint, Nail Factory,

1mile south of there: Safeways, Italian Rest, Furniture Store, Health Food Store, Hairdresser, Optician, Nail Factory...

If I drove in a square 1 mile east, same thing and Nail factory,

In the middle is a sumptuous resort which now boasts a free standing brand new Elizabeth Arden Spa.... hmmm.

Maybe I should find out? The radical inside of me has simmered down a bit these days...although I did complain to the Department of Mines, the County and anyone else I could find about the huge open cast mine to the east of us Ahhhhhhh

"Living in Americaaaaah at the beginning of the millenniiiiiiummmmm"

I agree pampering can get you lots of energy to deal with every else on the agenda. Remember the saying take 25% so you can give 75%. However when it is of the expense of yourself question it. the mma issue is serious and I have just been working on a person who got an allergic reaction to a product from a nail bar and was returning every week to have her nails fixed repaired at the nail bar. I would say that the cut price she was paying every week she should have gone to a regular mma FREE salon and would still in the end paid the same money and had less stress over from her nails. she is all fixed now and has beautiful nails to boot. she is paying about on average $45.00 for a 3 week appointment which is cheaper than paying $20 (plus repairs) every week. Remember you get what you pay for.
