A young friend of Son's used to wear Poison and it was so wonderful that I used to follow her around like a dog, just letting my nose appreciate that great odour. I hankered for that perfume but could never afford it. One day I won some money in Lotto and I hightailed it to the shop to buy a bottle of Poison. .................. What a let down - on me Poison was well and truly named. It was horrible. The moral of the story is, never buy perfume without trying it on your own body first and never assume that what smells terrific on one person is going to smell the same on yourself. I love Opium and White Linen. My daughter gave me a bottle of Creation Lamis perfume called Overdrive. It's lovely but I've never seen Creation Lamis for sale anywhere. Have you heard of it.

No, I can't say that I have come across that one either Faye. Perhaps it is one that is not imported into NZ There are lots of places one can purchase these things from on the net. One of my daughters buys most of her cosmetics and toileteries on line . Personally, unless I knew what I was actually ordering I would not do that. With perfumes in particular it would be pretty hit and miss really. But it is great that your daughter has found one that you love, and hopefully she will either tell you from where it came, or shout you some more, when you when you start getting low on it. Re the Puppy like adoration... I remember when I was a kid, following one of my Aunts around so that I could breathe in the vapours of "Evening in Paris " which she used to wear. It was in a tiny wee blue bottle encased in a miniature model of the Eiffel Tower and one day I got my bottom smacked for getting it off her dressing table and spilling it while trying to remove the tiny rubber stopper so I could have a nice big sniff of it !.. Often wonder what I would think of it now... quite possibly, would think it was really yuk!
One perfume that I love on one of my daughters, is "Light Blue" by Dolce & Cabana. Yet on myself, if find it disappointing so what you say is very true indeed. Never assume that what smells great on one , will also be terrific on you. It doesn't work that way. My friend used to wear Poison, and I found that if we went to the movies together I would invariably get a headache. I reckon it was her Poison. Opium also has the same affect on me. I found both of those very heavy and cloying, and I think I must have been slightly allergic to one or other of the ingredients in both of those. Anyway, I was very relieved when my friend discovered a Gevenchy one called Ysatis , for I like it on her very much, and I have not experienced the headaches as I did from her previous favourites.

Katy, both of those perfumes you love - Maroussia and Speelbound, are on strawberrynet dot com, in fact Marrousia is on special! But it sounds like you have a new fragrance love.
I have a terrible timewith perfumes. They smell like old nappies or fried potatoes, evaporate away completely or give me a headache! So testing is essential. I used to wear Tocade, which is very vanillaey, but headaches. I love Cnnabar, which is a less known oriental a bit like Opium and Poison but more orangey. Love it, but it too can give me a headache. So these days I wear Organza - I LOVE it.
Oh, quick funny Poison storay - in the old days of the Wakefield market in Welly, there was a stall that sold soaps and toiletries that were knock offs of famous perfumes, including, according to the sign, Poisson. Hmm, given that this is french for Fish, it's an unfortunate spelling mistake! hehehe

Maryanne, not many people know Cinnabar - I actually like the smell although it can be quite overpowering.
KKK Katy, last year I tried our similar to D&G LIght Blue fragrance and did I get a huge compliment from a tourist here in Tauranga. She actually ran some way to tell me! Funny though, I do not like it on mysef at all.
Sorry, the text above looks strange: I am in the "similar to" or rendition perfume business so I go by numbers and the perfumes are very similar to and from the same families as some brand names - hence the "similar to" above.

My mother-in-law had this bottle of Tabu when I first met her and I tried some one day, only realising afterwards that everybody could obvioiusly smell that I have been into her bottle of perfume!

I will lift up my face to the sun today.

Thanks for that info Maryanne.. I have checked and that is a special price. oooh.. and right after I vowed not to be extravagant again for awhile. It IS just a tad too early to purchase one's Christmas Pressie isn't it ? I am so bothered about Spellbound, I can probably get that from Aus via my son in law , but I wouldn't get Maroussia so easily or cheaply I don't think.
Actually looking at the ones that you like MA... you might enjoy Maroussia too. Like Cinnabar, it has a rather exotic oriental sensuality to it.. .. one of the reasons I always think of it as more for evening wear.
Liz, I have always been very interested and fond of perfumes but sometimes I do wonder just how well we can actually "trust" our own judgement? You know how you said you didn't like Light Blue's fragrance on yourself, and yet other's do... just as I don't like it me , but love it on my daughter. I wonder why that is ? . I have a perfume called F by Ferragamo . It is a fairly light one which I thought would be a nice summery one, but I can only pick up the scent of it for a few minutes after I have sprayed, and then it just seems to disappear. I like a perfume to waft back up at me and remind me that I smell nice, but after an hour on, there is nothing that I can detect. Yet, I was asked once what I was wearing about 6 hours into the day. I was surprised that anyone could pick it up at all . When I cannot smell something that others can smell, it makes me worry that when I can smell a perfume, perhaps it may be too over powering to others around me . Do you know what I am trying to say ? Does that make sense to you I wonder ?
Your mention of Tabu by the way, reminded me that my dear late husband bought me some of that without any consolation with me at all. It was years and years ago.. .. before I got him trained LOL... You know, I bet he payed a pretty penny for it too, because he was never a cheapskate, and obviously he must have loved it, but I found it very overpowering on me. I hate to say this, but I used it up eventually every time I vaccumed the house, by putting it on cotton wool and sticking inside the vacuum filter. He would come home from work and say, "Oh.. darling you are wearing that lovely perfume I bought for you.... " He really believed that, and I never ever told him of course .

I haven't had the chance to have a look at your blog yet Liz but perfume is an interesting product, so personal to each of us not only in taste but how they react on us.
I used to wear Charlie years ago (decades actually) and people would ask what I was wearing and were very suprised when I told them because it was a perfume they didn't generally like, then I used to wear White Linen a lot and really enjoyed that, now I wear Arden's Green Tea and like it's fresh perfume.
At one stage when I had the shop a perfume came out and was very heavily promoted by the pharmacy in our block, I think it might have been Paris, or a name similar to that and I couldn't stand it, people would come in after having been sprayed with testers down the road and it took all my patience not to tell them to leave as the perfume was so overpowering.
I bought some Zen perfume and body cream in March, I had been given a hand massage at the pharmacy and then felt compelled to make a purchase so mug that I am I did, I took it up to Auckland and wore it every day at the gift fair where I was working, nobody made any comment about my perfume though I must admit I wasn't too thrilled with it on me, and then again on the day I travelled home, I didn't leave Auckland to drive home till well after 1pm so got home about 10.30pm and the first thing my Husband said after greeting me was "what is that perfume you are wearing it is horrible!!" that was after having had it on at least 12 hours. I gave the bottles to my next door neighbour but she returned it because it made her sneeze and eyes water so it has gone to another home.

I laughed when I read about the vacuum cleaner: I spray perfume straight into my vacuum cleaner before my dear husband vacuums the floor (we have a wonderful understanding - I've never vacuumed in 34 years!). Anyways, the house always smells nice and I am now using a bottle of our own brand perfume. The story behind this perfume is that we went out as couples for a business dinner (associates that we've never met before) and the lady in the other party turned out to be this tiny, size 0! My husband commented on her choice of perfume, I sweetly enquired about which one it was and promptly put in on the vacuum list!

I will lift up my face to the sun today.

What worries me is............if I can't smell my perfume after a few minutes because my nose has become so desensitised to it, does the same thing apply to other smells that might be around me, such as bad breath, BO. foot odour and the like? They say you really can't detect your own bad odours. Having thought up this conundrum I had an immediate urge to shower, slather on the deodorant, use mouthwash and put Gran's remedy in my shoes. In fact, throw the shoes out and buy new ones. I'm becoming quite paranoid now.
