We live in a strange world, we have access to plastic surgeons if we don't like our nose or breast size, while most of the worlds population have no access to any form of medical care.

It just doesn't seem right to me.

'In the Asian, African and Latin American countries, well over 500 million people are living in what the World Bank has called "absolute poverty"

Every year 15 million children die of hunger'

What is strange about that ? What is strange is that you seem to expect it to be a perfect world. But it is not a perfect world Grumpy. It never has been, and never will be . Simple as that. As long as we each do our little bit when we can to make things better for someone , somewhere, then that is going to be about as good as gets. Nothing is ever going to be completely "right." There will always be imbalances .

Actually I 'expect' very little, I know people will continue to show indifference to the suffering of others.

What I would 'like' to see is a fairer world.

If it is strange that it bothers to think about the terrible plight of others, then I am happy to be strange, but I know many people prefer not to even think about it. One of my regrets is that I am not a professionally qualified medial person, if I was I would like to live and work in an undeveloped country. Sadly I have little to offer (other than some cash) and would just be in the way.

I would hope that people spend years at medical school to help people in real need, and many do, others just look for the easiest way to make the most money.

I think the main criteria for helping those in dire straits in the undeveloped countries is a willingness to help by working alongside the more qualified personal. Of course you would have to be strong and healthy yourself, and be able to act with compassion and follow the instructions of those more qualified personel you would be working alongside. If you really wanted to do something like this, and can pass the medical I am sure you would be accepted by most of the Volunteer organisations that exist .
You don't have to keep on regretting. Just do it.

You are more than likely correct in what you say Artichoke, but some people just seem to enjoy being negative.
It is true. If we really want something badly enough we have the power within us to make it happen.
