Oh how it changes 3 Years, 10 Months ago
Went out to clean up the yard & found that my regained eyesight is causing a fashion dilemma.
My expensive sun glasses, are -were, fit overs; fine as long as I hold my head up; look down & they fall off.
Dashed inside & rummaged through a few draws.
Great I have some from way back when.
Put them on, did the job. Great!
Walked inside & caught sight of self in mirror.
OH horrors what do I look like; but I wore these for several years.
I even have pictures that looked so in & with it.

Well they sure don't look in now.

Go see if you can find that pair of 'Dame Edna' sun specs you felt so good in.
Oh those swallow wing eyebrows

Love the Dame Edna

First they came for the communists, and I did not speak out - because I was not a communist; then they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out - because I was not a socialist; then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out - because I was not a trade unionist; then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out- because I was not a Jew. Then they came for me - and there was no one left to speak out for me. - Pastor Martin Niemöller

I usually hand my old glasses in to go to the Islands however I do have one pair here I kept for spares and the girls call them my Deidre Barlow eyes. They are huge. I think I shall just stick with the frameless ones... I had sunglasses made the same shape and they have very tiny rubber hooks to clip on the top of the frame so they cannot fall off. I am sure they see us coming for sunglasses FH...mine were $250. Hubbys were even dearer and they have magnets that stick onto the side arms.
I remember one pair I had years ago that had lots of different coloured straws that I could thread through the transparent frames to co ordinate to whatever I was wearing.. I used to put a different colour in each side to see if anyone would notice.

You have had sun so bright Fey Hag ?
Cripes, the weather up here has been atrocious, rain hail wind you nane it. The past few days have been miserable to put it mildly.
Yep, there is sun this morning though.. at last. It is so nice to see it shining again - must look for my sunglasses in case I need them.
By the time I find the blessed things, it will have clouded over again I am sure.
Glad to hear that some of you are getting lovely bright sunny days though. I think that I am starting to get that S.A.D. syndrome.. had a lousy weekend.
Yes, old glasses or even lenses are gratefully received by organisations such as some of the Rotary or Lions clubs for distribution to those needy in the Pacific Islands. That is where my old specs end up too Mizbiz. I have often wondered if there are a lot of Patricia Barlow or Dame Edna types running around over there ? Or do they use re-use the lens parts do you think, and somehow grind them down to fit more conservative shaped frames ? I think that is what they do.

It's not called sunny Nelson for nothing you know
We have felt quite guilty these last few weeks with all our winter sun.
DH rugs up with gloves & woollie hat & goes to sit in the bright sunlight for an hour each day, to ward of the blues he gets sitting inside.
I should be so lucky; only the dog sh8t shuffle gives me time in the sun these days.

If this is retirement give me work; I had gaps then.

Hehe.. Was just telling a friend today that I was suffering from S.A.D syndrome . Have been unwell and cooped up inside for days is not my idea of fun either. Not that scooping up doggies do's would be either, mind, but I do know what you mean. i retired a few years back and then a lovely little job came my way and it takes me out for two days a week, and could do more if I wanted. I think I have the best of both worlds now except when I get caught up in traffic snarls.
You are certainly in what I would say is a real gem of place to live and for more than the sunshine hours it has too.

Oh Mizbiz, I have those same frames as yours!!!! I bought them on one trip to Australia.

I love the chance to change the top frame colours at will.

In fact, I mostly wear them clear these days, as I am too lazy to change the colour inserts every day, as I change colour clothes!!!

I still have quite a few other glass frames, but unfortunately, they are well out of fashion now, yet I still keep them. How sad is that.

Maybe large frames will do the cycle & come back into fashion once more!

Count all your blessings. the ones that cost you no money.

I still wish I had my frames Lucky as I did enjoy them. You say the top frame so I am thinking the straws were just across the top of the frame... mine were quite long and threaded right around the lens. I also kept some tortoise shell and gold oroton ones and kept them for spares as they are still quite trendy in a tortoise shell sort of way.
