Some electronic goods are advertised without GST included and you need to add on 12.5% There are some stores here in Auckland that do that. mainly computer outlets. So you need to be aware of what the advertised display costs is showing, sometimes it is in small print. Also there is a Paris, Texas, so I guess there are some kiwi's that are super educated

Two things here... That electronics store could be breaking the law Sandy .because I thought all retailers had to by law display only GST inclusive retail prices , under the consumers guarantees act ? I think tradesmen who provide a service and quote an hourly price for it, plus mileage however , can also GST to their quote when sending in their account. I think it is a bad practice if they do not however point that out to the consumer at the time though - or quote GST inclusive in the first place.
The second thing about this thread , Mime I don't know what is with you ? Why did you feel you have to be so full of sarcasmn with your reply. At least, that is what it seemed to me to be, but I will be first to apologise if you tell me that was not your intention here but it sure comes across like that .

Hi Kate, I think you're right they have to display it with GST included. I don't think I explained it well. The shop in question displays the price of goods excluding GST and underneath the excluded price is the inclusive price in small print. I must confess it confused me because when i went to buy a flash drive I thought it was a certain price but when I got to the check out it had GST added, as I didn't read the smaller print LOL. I believe they do it for business purposes.

Mime, sorry if there is a misunderstood or if I have hurt your feelings in any way!
-I have no doubt that the shopping can be very good in NZ, I was just wondering about plus size shopping. There are so many cities, included Paris, where shopping is tremendous, but plus size shopping a nightmare! I ve tried to look for some informations on internet, and I have also asked about it on an other part of the forum (when I was introducing myself).
-I would never think that you live in the ass end of the world, ortherwise I would not move over there ^-^. I don't know where you get this idea from, but certainly not me.
-I know that there is some great fashion designers in NZ, but from the internet, it is really difficult, if not impossible, to find anything about plus size shops (or shops with plus size section) in Auckland. Sorry if I'm not the best on Google...
-Thank you for the info on GST
-Gosh, I know that you are multicultural, did I say the contrary? I've spent some time in South Pacific, and I've worked on development programs around Samoa, Fijis, Niue, Tokelau.... And actually cultural diversity is one of my speciality ;o)
-Regarding the fact that I still want to use online plus size stores... Well isn't it the subject of this topic on the forum... It seems that I'm not the only one interested in plus size online shopping... But for me, this is simple: I'm a real shopping addict, and there are some websites where I do find stuff that are very difficult to find anywhere else... For example even when I lived in France, I ordered boots from the UK website duoboots because I could not find any plain leather boots which would fit me until the knee... Same for Torrids where I love the panties with tinkerbell or any stupid message.. I love the shape of some clothes from Alight, etc... I have lived in France, Canada, Peru, Samoa, and currently in Tanzania where I do finish a mission, and I have always enjoyed doing some shopping on the internet: the world is too big to shop in only one country ^-^ So I do profit of all th opportunities (& sales ) all over the world!
-Regarding the standard of education, I'm currently studying this, and I'm having my diplomas traduced, you don't need to worry ^-^ But once again, it would be weird if I would ask a question on it in a topic about....Online Plus Size Stores, in the forum Fashion... don't you think so?
-Well, sorry for mentioning Paris, France.... But there are other Paris in the world... and I was not willing to "insult" anyone by writing such a thing. Sorry if you feel this way....

You know, I'm really happy about moving to NZ, shopping is one of my passion, even if it seems silly, but you should not judge me for trying to know more about the possibilities which will be opened to me once I'll be there.

Cheers,

Sarah

I admit that I was irritated by your manner but realise now that you probly could not help it. It is a fact that many foreigners come here thinking they will have to make do with a lower standard of quality or variety of what I consider material things and apart from the fact that our cities are very modern we have an abundance of other values more important than this material stuff. I am disappointed that when ppl are coming to live in this country that they do not ask questions more relevant to the lifestyle rather than their wardrobe.
I hope you find what you are hoping to when you get here. Do you have work permit and a job to come to or will you be here as a tourist?

I read Sarah's post and I thought it was quite a reasonable request to ask questions and stick to topics. Geeze Mime what a condescending reply;

"I admit that I was irritated by your manner but realise now that you probly could not help it."

If education is of interest to her she would have asked about it.

"I am disappointed that when ppl are coming to live in this country that they do not ask questions more relevant to the lifestyle rather than their wardrobe."

As she stated shopping IS part of her lifestyle and that was what the enquiry was about.

How do you know that when people come to live in this country that they don't ask more relevant questions Mime? When I came here to live I did my research and my values, as I am sure anyone else's are different from yours or anyone. What is important to me may very well not be important to you, and this may well be the case with Sarah. I don't think you're in any position to judge other people's values, none of us are. If material things are important to some people then so be it. It isn't yours and that should be respected. Just as we all should respect each others points of view and values. Just because it isn't your view, doesn't make it any less important.

I hope Sarah, that if you come to live in Auckland you will keep in contact and come and join us when we have an RW lunch

Irritation is not confined solely to you Mime and in any case, it is a poor excuse for rudeness.
