I got married in February this year and i got my dress from a shop in Henderson, Auckland. it is called Ballgowns and Beyond. Their website is

The shop is owned by an absolutely wonderful lady called Colleen and she is helped out by another wonderful lady called Karla. They have a good selection of larger sized gowns in their store and are really really helpful. They were great - even telling me when i tried something on and it looked awful - unlike a lot of places who will just try and get you into something and sell it by telling you that you look great.
I can highly recommend them, they made me feel like an absolute princess and didnt mind me coming back a million times to try things on again!
They were one of the few shops that actually had gowns in the larger sizes to try on. if you are anything like me you cannot look at something on the hanger and decide whether it is going to look good or not - i HAVE to try things on. I rang and emailed just about every wedding dress shop in Auckland and only came up with about 5 that "said" they had dresses in larger sizes. Half of them tried to squieeze my size 24 body in a size 18 dress - and if you have ever tried on a wedding dress - there is NO give in them so you usually end up being a size or two larger than normal.
