Maternity clothing 1 Year, 9 Months ago
Hi lovely ladies,

Did anyone else have issues finding maternity clothing, or was it just me?

I never fitted any of the nice looking clothing in the shops so I just had to make do with bigger sizes in 'normal clothes' or a smaller maternity size which was uncomfortable. It was so depressing not to feel as good on the outside as I did on the inside.

Just wondering if you also would you have been interested in an online maternity store that stocked plus sizes? Would you have gone to a home based business to try on maternity clothes?

And as for plus size nursing bras... don't get me started!

I really hope I'm not the only one.

Cheers, Jocelyn

I don't know how many members would be pregnant on here at this time Jocelyn.

I am grand mother now, but in our time we wore smock tops, or for best,...lovely dresses,...not skin tight singlets showing the bump like a lot do today.

I take it you are sounding the members out for starting your own business?

Count all your blessings. the ones that cost you no money.

Hi again Lucky 7,

Not all young Mums wear skin tight singlets I can assure you... I want to be comfortable so I wore tops with plenty of room.

Yes you're correct. Is it ok that I ask the members some questions... if not I'll be happy to remove my post. This is the only site for plus size women that I know of and I'd be keen to hear from any members who want to share their maternity clothing frustrations.

My thoughts for what they are worth are that there is a big difference between what we fuller figured but NON pregnant women think of as desirable fashion garments for business , special occasion, or leisure wear, and what are maternity fashions. I don't consider that both types are interchangeable. If you are NOT pregnant, the last thing you would want to wear are maternity clothes, just because you are an XXL in size. And if you are pregnant, and need maternity clothes, you would look for then in a shop that specialises in Maternity wear surely, not on a site such as this one?
Imagine one of us grannies wearing a maternity top to the supermarket and coming face to face with a highly expectant young mother- to -be who is wearing the exact same top which she purchased from a Maternity wear specialist. I should think it would be embarrassing for both women.
You would be far better off joining a young mother's group to ask your questions and/or market your range, Mamamore. However I would recommend that before you do bowl into any forum though, it would be polite to contact the site owner/administrators first to ask if it is alright by them if you do use their site. . Some of them do not like it , and especially if they cannot recognise that there would be any benefit to their existing membership .
On the homepage of most websites you will find a '"contact us" button which you can use to the owner an email .

Thanks for your post Katy. I just wanted to contact plus size women and didn't realise the age range of this forum. Thanks for letting me have a say instead of just deleting my post... I appreciate it.

Have a great weekend everyone!

MamaMore try sites like Huggies if you want to sound out your idea for a maternity store. I do remember reading a post on there at some stage about bigger ladies finding it hard to find maternity clothes. It would be a niche market but I'm sure there would a demand for them.
Good luck!

Yup I've been checking out Huggies It's actually quite reassuring that other plus size Mums have had the same difficulties as me.

Hi everyone,

Sorry to bother you again... I know most of you (if not all) aren't really interested in maternity clothing. I've launched www.mamamore.co.nz today and my plan for the website is to offer maternity and nursing clothing to Kiwi women of every size.

I will be stocking jeans and trousers in short, regular, and long lengths and I will soon be the only NZ retailer of the fabulous Plus Maternity label from Australia. We'll be stocking their tops, jeans, trousers and PJ's in sizes 18-28, so if you know any curvy Mums to be who are frustrated with the lack of maternity clothing for them please point them in the direction of MamaMore Maternity.

Thanks and have a great day.

Jocelyn
