Fashions this winter.. 1 Year, 7 Months ago
Just changing the subject here, from sports/running shoes..
This winter I have found it much easier to dress well, than I have in some past ones. I love the long-line loose cardigans/jackets with the dipping hemlines which allows one to 'layer up' over warm leggings and fine warm merino skivvies. I have found them to be quite flattering to the fuller figure, and certainly comfortable to wear, and importantly to me, I have felt that I even looked fashionable without looking like an old ewe dressed like a lamb!
On of my favourite garments purchased this season, is a boldly printed colourful sleeveless tunic top which dips at each side, and is slightly longer at the back than in the front. I seem to be able to wear that top over almost any coloured pants or skivvy, and I have never worn it yet, when at least one person has not told me that I look great in it!. It cost me about $80 and has turned out to be my best buy and favourite garment of the season !.
Has any one else made what they consider to be a great purchase recently - whether it is a versatile top like mine, a lovely scarf or necklace that boosts their ego and makes them feel good, or what.. tell us about your favourite fashion wear or accessories at present.

I bought boots from the No1 shoe warehouse five years ago and I love them!!! They're not quite ankle high and are so comfy I can wear them with nearly anything. I've never had boots that fit before, I'll wear these till they die

A few days ago I popped into Farmers to get out of the cold, and bought at 50% off, a grey skirt all rucked up, and a long grey cardi with Latin writing along the hem and sleeves. Both were about $55 together. Such a bargain and I get compliments about both. I don't usually wear grey, but with a stronger colour I really like it.
However, my favourite things are a black and gold frock coat I got last winter at TCD I am wearing it to a thread! The other is a skirt I amde a few years ago, it is very, very full being made of five layers of heavy black denim and black drill embroidered with red flowers, attached to a yoke made of an old pair of black jeans. Whenever I wear it I feel like a saloon girl, and I love how it swishes around. The two look great togther too. Cost me about $30 to make!

Now that is what I call a real bargan MA - when you can make something for yourself that you absolutely love, and that you know , no one else can arrive on the scene wearing exactly the same outfit as yours !. I used to make all my own clothes once upon a time too, when I could see well enough to thread the needles... I suppose I should give it a go again now - the modern day overlockers are a lot easier I believe to re-thread, change colours on etc, than my old machine is. I did used to get a lot of pleasure from sewing and creating ... and there was knitting as well. I am going out this afternoon, and will be wearing an article of clothing I knitted umpteen years ago. I call it my " horse blanket" goodness knows why really, but it was always so warm and comfy and easy to shruggle into, and has come right back into fashion now.
I just love it ...

With the cold weather upon us, shopping for fashionable clothing while being practical is a must. While some fashions from previous season are still acceptable, update that closet with a few pieces that are being shown
on runways around the world. Chunky sweaters are being chosen as an alternative to a coat. Look for larger sizes, since it's all about warmth and comfort. The key color coming from the runways is purple. Variations like lavender or deep violet seem to be in abundance, so look out for styles in this shade.

I'm afraid that if purple is the 'in' colour then I will definitely not be dressed to the nines in the height of fashion this season !
The only thing in purple that I like is Cadbury's Chocolate. We all have I least favourite colours I guess , and purple usually reminds me of Funerals!. As a small child I was taken to my grandfather's Requiem Mass, and the priests vestments, and the church itself was all purple...
It was such a sad, heavy, long drawn out service for a little girl to sit through, that I guess that was the start of my dislike of purple.
I remember my husband wanted to buy me a second hand Ford Escort once, that he thought was a really good buy as it had low milage and had been well serviced etc. He couldn't understand it at all when I said a very positive and adamant " No No, - the only time you can put me in purple is after I am dead ! "
Has any one else got a deep aversion for any particular colour, and for what reason ?
