Tutukaka - the boat, the sea - here I come! Not really travelling far , and not till after Xmas, but once we are out on the boat we can dream we are anywhere exotic. Can hardly wait

I love Tutukaka and, on fact, most places north of Auckland. My daughter lived up in Dargaville and Tangiteroria for many years and we had many holidays there and in Whangarei. She's down here in the South Island again, thank goodness, and quite happy to make her home here but like me, she has a soft spot for Northland.

Not anywhere interesting Ladies,...more of a needed break after the last 12 months, & what happened to us all here.

We'll take a few days off camping, after son number 2 goes home after spending Xmas with us.

Then we look forward to son numero uno & wife visiting from Gold Coast late February, but before that, numerous occasions to get together with our many friends. So looking forward to our meetups.

It's the fellowship that counts, not the destination!

My sister and I take turns at doing Christmas and this year it is her turn at their place. That means we will be travelling less than hour on Christmas morning , on a very familiar road. But, you are right Lucky, it is not the destination that makes Christmas but the fellowship. Our combined families are very close and we always have a great Christmas together. Some of us have to pitch tents on the lawn to stay in, so we get to do a bit of camping as well.

same here Artichoke. All of our family are joining us in the new house for Christmas and there will be bodies on the lawn as well, either that or sleeping on the verandah. I'm really looking forward to eveyone (except 3 grandchildren who are going north) being gathered together.

Love the south island too Faye, the scenery is beautiful, but I don't like the cold. It a good climate up here in the North - beyond Auckland I mean.
I was brought up near the sea, and believe it or not, I do get withdrawals if I am away from it too long. It is hard to explain to inland dwellers. Like, even though I work in Whangarei, I still am within a short walk of the wharf so I can still feel the salt in the air so to speak. It is different from living inland. It is different even from being by a lake. I went to Taupo for a holiday one time, and to me, it was only OK in comparison even though there was all of that water. When I was a kid dad always called me his little mermaid. My dream is to own a houseboat to live on permanently . One day.
