Working towards joining the Police Force 3 Years, 5 Months ago
Hi everyone
I'm a brand new member!
I've got my heart set on joining the police force and would love to hear from any others out there who have been there done that or are in the process of working towards it too..
I've attended a recruiting seminar and am trying my hardest to get my fitness up, I was going really well until I had to have 2 wisdom teeth out so that knocked my running back a lot as I wasn't willing to run outside in the cold with gaping holes where my teeth had been!
I was up to about 2km in 12 minutes, not bad considering I've never been into running.
I'm slowly working towards getting everything I need sorted out, 1st aid course, swimming cert, etc already have my defensive driving cert, (I think, I sat it back when I was a teenager to speed up getting my full licence)
So if anyone has any helpful advice or wants to have a yarn about Police College or the lead up to it or anything relating to it please gimme a bell, I'd love to hear from ya!

Welcome to RW Essjay and good luck with your application into the Police Force. You sound like just the sort of motivated, organised recruit they need. My only suggestion would be to try and talk to someone in the know, even if you have to phone the local Police Station or Police College at Trentham. Let us know how you get on.

Well done! It's a bloody hard thing to get into the College, so first off, good luck!!! I used to work for the Police and one of my top friends is still reasonably 'up' in the selection process for the Recruitment section. It's a lot of work, and hard yards to get there. NZ Police are one of the hardest forces to become a part of. The fitness, medical and psychological standards are set high and for good reason. I had a friend who did fantastically well and when it came to swimming, he couldn't hit the standard. He was knocked out and came back the next year even stronger and eventually made it through.
Be aware that you can't just keep trying every year, there is a cut off. So you need to work your booty off to complete each task that you need to, within the guidelines.
The NZ Police force is a fantastic organisation to be a part of. It gave me a family as well as employment. I wish you the very very best. Go for gold!!!!
When you get in, which with determined effort you will, have the greatest time knowing that you are part of one of the greatest assets to NZ culture. GOOD LUCK!!!!!!

I noticed how the police do look after their members. In times of illness or other misfortune the welfare officers are there to help. If an officer cannot perform active duty, she or he is given other jobs so they continue to receive income and continue with service years.

None of the same problems we all face when dealing with ACC when injured, the welfare officers support the injured officers. If only we could all learn something from that.

Will you ever go back to that work Cookie?

First they came for the communists, and I did not speak out - because I was not a communist; then they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out - because I was not a socialist; then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out - because I was not a trade unionist; then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out- because I was not a Jew. Then they came for me - and there was no one left to speak out for me. - Pastor Martin Niemöller

Hello

Where I can find information concerning NZ Police salary scale?
I've already found a piece of information about the first salary. I'd like to know how the situation looks like after a few years when you become a DI.

Well, if you really are in Praha, of the Czech republic Ann as per your profile, I fail to see how knowing the New Zealand police salary scale would interest you. If you are a police woman who is thinking of immigrating to this country, you would be able to ask for that information from a source which would be much better qualified to give you the real deal in more accurate terms than any one here who is not in the service , could give you. Why don't you try writing to a more official source for this information and one you can be confident in, will be correct ?
