I am often asked this ...quite funny at my age

My guess is as good as theirs now. This time last year I was thinking that I would be working in organisations that work with large and older clients in terms of health and fitness. But listening to some of the lecturers and people on our field trips, I am quite excited at the many possibilities not just for the young students but also for myself. I would ideally be taking on a variety of roles from managing facilities, projects as well mentor, coaching and training the clientèle previously mentioned. There is apparently plenty of work opportunities out there. I also think I'll do more study, its fun, challenging but fun.

Another angle I've used in my response is that I am already living my future. I am loving being here and love the interaction with the wide range of age groups and abilities. I can stay here for a long time yet.

Elliean it sounds as though you and I have been a bit alike in that you have made a decision as indeed I did, to strike off into life changing direction by returning to study. I have many regrets about what I have done with my life. The main one being that I have regretted that I did not knuckle down when I was at school. I played up as a teenager, got pregnant, left to get married. . Yes, I have regretted that part of it. Not the kids, but the lack of qualification, and the enforced marriage and a husband ye that was all wrong for me. Yes, big regrets there, but I stuck with him because I loved my kids, and wanted the best for them and he was the only breadwinner. It was hard getting back into the work force unless I was prepared to skin fish or something equally uninspiring. As my kids were growing up I wished I knew how I could help them more with their homework and stuff, and by the time they were at high school, I was right out of my depth in that area as well. I decided then that I would do something more with my life as soon as I could. When I said I was going to go back to school, I don't think any of my friends thought I would be able to hack it, but I thoroughly enjoyed the challenge and the discipline of studying . I took a business course, and now I have got a really good job and I feel respected and my kids are real proud of me and I am real proud of myself too. Life is good. I am happy too.

I do look forward to earning again. I gave up my well paid job as a lab tech to firstly return to Auckland to extended family and secondly to go back to school for a sport degree. Sport was something I was really good at while at school but there were no opportunities back in the 70s for me. Making up for it now and loving it.

Bump Bump... what a way to spend my tea break.

I have just enrolled at the local high school to do year 11 Maths Studies and Physics. Our school starts the publicly examined courses in the last 3 weeks of term 4 so those weeks are not wasted. I am 53, but do know a number of the kids so this should be interesting! What do I want to do when I leave school? Study Architectural Engineering at Adelaide University, it will either happen or not *shrug*

Well, you just never know Delta. I would once have never ever have thought that I could hold down a job like the one I do today. I left school with no qualifications and also no idea of my own abilities to achieve any. But, here I am today with a good Salary, and able to be independent and hold my head up high among the best of them . Tough to begin with. Real tough. But , once I got into the swing of things, I really enjoyed being a student again, and the younger ones barely seemed to notice that I was old enough to be their mother. I loved it . You go for it Gal!.

Have just found out that 3 of my friends are going to do certificates in school services next year. Soooo many women are upping their education levels these days, it is great to see.

How'zit going for our two students ? EllieAnn has not been heard from for a wee while. I guess she has been head down working hard ? Are you still looking forward to starting your course in the New Year Delta ?
