A different time: 6 Months, 1 Week ago

When I was young career women were a rarity, I have had several directions in life and did, for a long time, want a traditional career.
I am self-employed now and wish I had realised a long time ago that was the best option for me, I like to be in charge, I don't want to put up with bullying and harassment, I like to make decisions without having to consult a committee, I need autonomy.

Not all bosses are bullies who harrass their staff all of the time though. One day I might own my own business but meanwhile I am content to widen my experience under the guidance and leadership of a really great boss. I am conscientious enough to give him a fair deal as an employee and as a boss he appreciates that, and will always listen to, and hear what any of his staff or partners might come up with in the way of good ideas . I don't think you can get better than that really. I do make decisions and I take responsibility for them and I love love, love love my job!

I cannot say I love my job. It is a job though, and down here there are not that many that come up which would suit me. I just like to get out and be with people and be able to contribute financially to put the icing on our cake now at our age. It helps to allow us keep our investments intact and allow our savings to grow, buy a new car every so often. My boss is fine. I get on fine there and there is no pressure.
I have never entertained the idea of having a career. My ambition was always about having a husband and family. That was my career.
