in the last 2 weeks i have applied for a promotion within the company, only because i am bored with my job. (even a banana could do it) on one hand its money for jam on the other i can do 8 hours of work in 2 . shock horror they passed me over for an outsider, even though it was an internal posting and he didnt work for us but he is more qualified (yes i know who he is and i would choose him) im kind of hurt but only applied because i was bored : i probably earn as much as he will get for more work, is it time for me to walk away from this company now?

I reckon you should go with your gut feeling about this. One one hand you don't want to look a gift horse in the mouth but on the other, no one likes being bored at work. Is it possible to ask for more work to be put your way? Maybe even tell your boss how you are feeling. I am sure they wouldn't want to lose you.
