Wow.. Jackie.. you did have some blue sky in some of the places then ! At one stage when the weather was so foul here in Auckland I was thinking of you, and hoping like anything that it was not like this where you were.
Now for some reason or another not all of the photo's have downloaded. Got a few white blanks with little red crosses in the corner but from what I have seen, you got some mighty shots. One that really intrigued me was the metal sculptures.. Where were they? They were in between a couple of clearly Rotorua views, but I have not seen those figures before, and they are just so fabulous. They are not in Rotorua though , are they ? I was there not that long ago . They look huge... are they larger than life like they appear to be ?
I also loved that very first photo of the cabbage tree on the rock face. Great photo!

Great photo's Jackie. I recognise the handbasin, stop off there regularly and I see you got to Tawhiti too. I've only been into the cafe and shop area but it is well worth visiting. Nigel Ogle who owns it also did the large cow outside the now closed visitor building at Fonterra south of Hawera.

You certainly crammed a lot into your week on the road, Jackie. Great piccies - thanks for sharing. Like KKKKaty, I'm intrigued by the sculpture - the background almost looks like Rotorua's Kuirau Park? We Kiwi girls really do live in paradise, don't we?

Katy - it was absolutely foul going down to Rotorua. Stopped for my breakfast in Hamilton, started again with a vengeance on the drive down from Pukeatua to Rotorua. That sculpture IS in Rotorua, by the way. Not far from the entrance to the Museum. From Rotorua to Taupo to halfway down the Taupo - Napier Rd it was dodgy weather, and then as soon as I got over the hill where you go down to the Hawkes Bay, it was absolutely gorgeous. Stayed that way for a while, then closed in further down, and was absolutely filthy for my drive from Shannon to Wellington. The weather improved again on the Friday, and by Sunday, when I was driving up to Opunake, it was lovely again. That lasted for the next day and a half, and then closed in just as I was driving back to Auckland on Tuesday. Jess, yes, I did go to the Tawhiti Museum. What a clever man that Nigel Ogle is, isn't he? And I have to say that the smoked chicken panini I had in the Badger's Cafe, was the best ever. I had a lovely, lovely time catching up with friends, and I've decided that next year I will go down the Naki and tootle round the back roads for a week or so. I was dying to take more photos (only took about 150 in the end) and certainly more of the derelict old buildings, and a few more B&W ones. I loved Taranaki the best and thus my decision. The mountain dominates the landscape and it's magnificent. Salliemae - no digital trickery used on those photos. Just little old me - not as good as I would have liked. I didn't get the light right in some of them, but ne'er mind.

Wow Jackie, Those pictures are beautiful. I always enjoy looking at the country side over there as it just looks so different from here. I was surprised to see the modern cars and city as such... Yes I know your city folks too but just surprised...

Thank you for sharing and it is pretty over ther. LOL.
