Hi there,
Does anyone else struggle with insomnia? I have had insomnia for probably the last 5 years and have only just started taking some action on it.
I found this great program on the internet and it really seems to be working.
A lot of programs will tell you to go to bed at the same time every night, but of course if you're not feeling tired, you're just going to lie in bed stressing about the fact that you're not going to sleep.
The program I am on suggests that you don't go to bed until you feel properly tired. But there is another side to this - you have to get up at the same time each morning.
You can set your own time, but you have to stick to it. The idea is that for the first wee while you will be very tired during the day as you haven't had enough sleep, but overtime your body will start learning that you need to get to sleep earlier if you're going to get up at your set time. I've found it's only taken about 10 days for my body to 'get the message'.
I have set my get up time at 6am, as I would really like to get into the habit of doing some exercise in the mornings before I get ready and leave for work at 7.30am. And it's getting easier every morning - the first week I was pretty comotose until about 7.00am but as I've gotten more used to it, I'm finding I can start dealing with the world around 6.30am which is great progress!
I thought I'd share this in case anyone else has had insomnia problems, as I've found it's really worked for me!
