What to see in Canterbury 3 Years, 9 Months ago
Apart from the obvious attractions like you gorgeous girls.

I haven't looked in here for months - life has just become so busy. But me and mine are making plans for our trip south at the end of the year - counting pennies, making reservations etc. Can you Canterbury girls help us out with a list of the things we really must see/do while we're there? - dates are 20 Dec to 3 Jan inclusive, though, bank willing, we may tack on anothe r week and travel alittle farther afield (Mike would like to see the Moeraki Boulders). We'll have a rental car and expect to be based in West Melton, so would appreciate all your good ideas for day trips to see the sights .

Blimey - I must update my avatar!

Welcome back again Jode. Well, one thing's for sure, we'll be having a coffee meeting to welcome you in person, won't we ladies!

I'm sure there'll also be suggestions about where to go to, during the Summer. I enjoy Orana Park, our zoo, always a great day's outing. It has a small train to get you round.

Some folks like to go to the Antarctic Centre, if you don't mind cold & ice!

The Arts Centre is buzzing every weekend, & there's our fairly new Art Gallery, for starters. but just enjoying the climate, the gardens, Parks & activities at Hagley park.

Council concerts, free brass & Pipe bands at parks all over ChCh every weekend.

Lots more too, the beaches are worth a visit. It's up to you. Suburbs alive with Malls, & shopping, but town a bit dead in places.

Great coffee at Muffin break's!

A slightly longer trip will take you to Arthur's Pass or maybe a journey through the Lewis Pass to Springs Junction. Southwards is Timaru, Geraldine (my favourite place but I'm prejudiced), northward to Kaikoura, westward to Darfield, getting close to the mountains, while eastward is the wonderful Banks Peninsula, Akaroa, lunch at French Farm Winery, a trip out to the Akaroa Heads in the Canterbury Cat.

Most tourist centres will have information of what to see and do in the city.

And, of course, a date with all of us Canterbury Realwomen, for coffee or lunch. That is a definate 'must do' as Lucky says, It will be great to see you after all these years.

I forgot about the Tram round the city centre, & the Gondola ride to the Summit overlooking Lyttelton.

You can also ride mountain bikes down the hill too, LOL

Or travel over to Akaroa.

Were we driving down, we'd do that very thing - as it is though, we're flying - and I'm not popping in by parachute.

Thanks for your sightseeing suggestions Girls - our Dan will have lots of ideas too, no doubt, but his favourite music venues may not be to our more "mature" taste.

If you do nothing else, Jode, go to Akaroa. It's just gorgeous. And do go to the weekend art and craft market at the Arts Centre.

I suspect you and M would enjoy Sammy's on Bedford Row, a real blues and jazz club. I'm sure they'd let you in even with the parachute!
