Dreadful bloody thing. But at least they've found her.

There was a manhole above the drain. Apparently they searched there several times without any sight of her. Someone, a member of the public, spotted a blocked and overflowing drain further up and that's when they brought the diggers in. It was a pipe drain, very narrow and it seems that Aisling might have been very quickly swept out of sight and into this pipe. What a horrible ending to a life. My heart goes out to those distraught parents. I suppose you could say that at least they know now, rather that spending the rest of their lives wondering, but it is still a terrible ordeal for them.

I have just read about this terribley sad discovery of the darling little girl being found. I cannot find any words deep enough to say to say to her family at this time. To lose a child, must be more than a living nightmare. Bless her soul.

oh... and last night on TV when our Mayor was asked what he thought of drain lids that pop off, his reply was just
"No one pays much attention to them ."
What a wanker!
Those parents, and those ratepayers who recognised the potential danger to their children, and their properties had sought the attention and help of his council to get this problem fixed as long ago as "Years" .
No one paid any attention to them , it transpires, and now look, see what has happened. .
At the very least I would have thought Bob Harvey could have expressed some sort of regret that his council could have been negligent in their responsibilities to the people in his City.

What a wonderful family, community and church the Symes are a part of. The care, concern and offers of help have shown how good people can be. I believe the police did their best too.
However, the council knew of the problem, the danger, the risk. Reviews will identify a communication, scheduling or risk analysis problem. Which means the council will have learnings. I hate that. It sounds trite when a child's life is the consequence. Learnings makes me think that my adding extra garlic to a dish didnt work, so I wont be doing that again.
Aisling Symes isnt a vehicle for learning. She is a gorgeous little girl who wont grow up to enjoy the family, community and church who cared so much.
And it may not be politically correct for me to say but I will, I was thankful Aisling hadnt been taken, abused, murdered. We lose too many innocents by violence in NZ.
My prayers are for the Symes family and those involved in her search.
