New Zealand and Australian clothing sizes are different from American, while there are a couple of Americans on here, I am not sure if they will be able to help. I suggest you contact the airline with measurements and see if you will need to ask for a seat belt extender and I believe some airlines will ask you to purchase 2 tickets. Good luck, and I hope you only need the extender. Enjoy the trip.

Well, it is not an Asian airline that you are using, so you should be OK! I would think that any of the American airlines are more used than most, to having large passengers flying their routes and while I have not ever flown with this particular one that you are booked on, I have flown many of the other ones such as United, Continental, TWA & Delta, etc. and just in the normal economy class seats. I am a size 22 - 24 or an XXL - XXXL so probably of similar size to yourself. I have had to ask for a seat belt extender on a couple of the smaller planes, before, but never on a DC10 or a 737 or any of the larger planes that fly internationally. Admittedly the belts have been a fairly tight fit at times though. You could be border-line for needing a seat belt extender. If your weight is mostly around your hips and tummy, then it would probably be a good idea to quietly ask the hostess when you are boarding, if you can have a seat belt extender brought to your seat just in case you need it . I am sure you will not be kicked off your flight though, so please be reassured on that point, and good luck for a pleasant journey.

I've flown from Chicago to Morelia and didn't have a problem. But this is relatively new, this weight thing on planes. I doubt you'll have a problem. But who knows? I'd hate to say you'll have to find out when you get there, but I think you will. I don't know how else you can know.
It's a terrible thing these airlines are doing to people. They are having problems with loosing customers as it is, and now, this. Who wants to find out when they get to the airport that "that particular" carrier, on that particular day, may decide that you're not worthy of flying on their plane?
I wish we all knew how to handle this situation. The man on the news a couple of weeks ago who was booted off didn't look all that much different then most men. He was not slim, but he was not ridiculous either. It would make me think twice if I wanted to put myself in that position I'll say that.
Imagine planning a cruise, shopping and packing for a two week vacation, and getting to the airport, and they wouldn't let you board the plane!!! You'd loose the flight and the cruise. These airlines MUST provide guidelines so people know what to do. This is crazy.

I would have thought with the high incedence of overweight people in US ( ref. data) the airlines would perhaps try to accomodate not penalise.. The idea of charging double the cost for two seats is outragious, as the real costs to them would be minimal re the food , the attention, insurances etc still only cover one person. All in the name of discrimination. How embarrassing for those who are denied flight or worse, be led off the plane because ytou are 'overweight' is appalling.
