My friend Maureen, has been taken off the ventilator, taken out of the Intensive Care Unit, and has been put into a regular room. Please hand back all of your black arm bands, mine included. Ahhhh, the wonders of medicine! Well of course, now the real work begins. She does, after all, have lung cancer. But then, it is a tumor, and only in one lung. We do grasp at straws in situations like this.
She remembers nothing of the first 10 days in the hospital. Not of my visit, as I swept into her room like Loretta Young wearing chiffon? .none of it. It's just as well, ten days on a ventilator could give you nightmares for the rest of your life. So, she remembers nothing, and she no longer has pneumonia, so that's a good thing. She's out of intensive care, and eating "big girl food", another good thing.
I will see her tomorrow and tell her that all of her "friends" in New Zealand and Australia wish her well. lol Thanks for helping me vent and get through the first wave in the Saga of Maureen.
