Would you Believe 1 Year, 11 Months ago
a week ago today we went to town to look into a set of new mattresses....... We we never look into anything unless we buy.... We bought a set for out bed....Needless to say they cost an arm & leg but we figured we could do this and still have enough to go see DH family in Arkansas..... There to be delivered a week from today....... Almost over two Thousand dollars....Well we took my car to the garage last monday and the guy stuck us for what he could for putting a belt on the car and some brake fluid in.... over a hundred thirty dollars....... He said Labor........ He said we needed to take it to a transmission place as he didn't have a guy who worked on them and said to take it to this one place as he thought it was just a little switch in the tranny....So today we go to town again... Took it to the Transmission shop.... well they put a machine on it .. course we didn't see it, and the guy comes out and ask DH to come back to the auto garage part, he comes back and I say, well... whats up. The guy looks at me and says heres what he has ... We need to give him eight hundred up front... and they will tear my tranny down and fix it ... then probably cost between Twenty Three Thousand to thirty Five thousand to get the car back and he would drive us home himself to cal city, I sat there with my mouth open and then said... Say What!!!!! He said the eight was for labor... I looked at DH and he looked in shock.......So I ask the guy if he had a card and he sorta run to get it and I said I'll call you.......................We couldn't believe it......So I called Missy and she said she was having the same thing done only at a different place and foe only sixteen thousand.... So I got her info and were going to town again next week........I can't believe all this is happening...We have to get it fixed or a new car cause it won't pass a smog test right now and will be due one on the renewal coming up and I'm dead set againest a new one so DH says we'll get it fixed....... What a worry .....

Forgiven, I have never heard of such exhorbitant prices for repairs!

$23.000 to $35.000 is more than a car is worth.

In fact you could buy 2 cheap runarounds for that price, & have a shopping spree with the change. Do shop around & compare prices, before committing yourselfl!!!

Yeah I thought cars were cheaper in US than over here, that sounds ludicrously exhorbitant.

I am so sorry......... I didn't mean thousands...... They want $2,300.00 to $3,500.00 to fix my transmission........ But just as well be Thousand as that is higher than a cats back too...... Did find out today as DH took it to get the tranny oil changed and regular oil changed, the guy said there was nothing wrong with it....... I even called him and ask him was he sure and he said absolutely......I personally know the guy as hes a board member at my church.........So now we are confused........ Sorry for the mistake......

As for cars being cheaper........... I don't know Delta about that..... After they add all their taxes and everything they are high.... Especially for a new one and I won't do that.............

All's good then Forgiven. Just a wee senior error

Actually, $2.300 to $3.500 is tolerable,...but if your regular guy says the transmission is o.k....better still.

Good luck then.

I also gaped and thought ahah she is so upset she added on more zeros instead of dots.. I can understand your concern, but also surprised two mechanics say you need the transmission done and one says not. Honestly one wonders at times. I would still watch it though. Does you trusty friend know where it can be tested so he can see the resukts perhaps. I think we all want to put our heads in the sand when we hear things like this though...cars are still a luxury, a necessary one all the same, but it is a bit like there is no such things as a free cat if you look after it as it should be cared for... cars are the same..
