Gallbladder surgery 1 Year, 9 Months ago
Hi

I am due to have my gallbladder removed on Tuesday and one thing I am freaking out about is weight gain. I am already morbidly obese and do not want to gain any more weight.

I keep reading about people gaining weight no matter what they do. I have already been eating healthy and losing weight.

I'm just so worried.... Has anyone had weight gain or loss after this surgery.

Hey there, Please dont worry about gaining weight once your gall bladder is out. I had mine removed at 18 cos it was falling apart. I remember feeling so so ill and was 200% beta once it was gone! You will feel a whole lot beta too I'm sure. I wasn't aware of any link with weight gain after losing a gall bladder anyway. The only way I gained the weight I have over the years has been enjoying too much rich food and being lazy about exercise, don't think it would have had diddly squat to do with my lack of a gall bladder. The thought of surgery can be very stressful but rest assured you will be just fine. All the best

I hope so!

I have only had one attack but it lasted about 20 hours. The doctors just said "lets take it out!". I'm not too worried about the actual surgery just being naked in front of people I don't know and the weight thing.

Hisgirl....Forget about your weight. Forget about any of that. Go have your surgery and feel better. You're not going to be naked in front of anyone anyway. You'll be knocked out, and never see any of them ever again. You'll be home within 24 hours and feeling great in less than a week. Then you can get back on track and continue to loose more weigh and get more exercise.

Now, if I could only put my "money where my mouth is" and do the same!!!! Good luck on your surgery. You'll be fine. I had mine out 6 or 8 years ago. There was nothing to it.

Ditto what Jilly says. I had mine out years ago laparoscopically and have never looked back. It was SOOO good to get rid of that pain. I've never heard of the weight gain idea and I'm a nurse. I lost quite a bit of weight as all I fancied eating for the first week was soup. Soon put it back on again though.

So I had it out! I am sure they took out half my stomach too and my taste buds.

I've lost about 4kg in less than a week.
I don't like salty foods anymore like popcorn, those $2 cardboard pizza from the supermarket are gross now and fizzy drink makes me want to hurl!! I tried a sundae from McDonalds last night and it was disgusting. I am not willing to try any of the other McDonalds food ever again as thats what put me in for the surgery.

I thought I would be upset about not liking these foods and drinks anymore but I am not. It'll be good for me in the long run.

I am almost healed from the surgery. Stopped taking pain meds on friday.

Everything went really well.

Thankyou all for your advice =)
