I can't remember if I mentioned that I hurt my knee. After about three days of extreme pain, dh took me to the emergency room at the hospital. They gave me a vicotin, x-rayed the knee, wrapped it in a very expensive velcro cast and sent me home with a script for 20 vicodin, advising me to see an orthopedic doctor immediately. I took the vicodin....heavenly...for five or six days...saw the ortho...he gave me another script for vicodin (40). After about the 24th vicodin I began to feel...not good. I took one, then stopped. The first two and a half days I slept almost none stop. For the past five days I've had a problem breathing and had such anxiety I've had to take a zanex to get me through the day. It's been a terrible week.

Yes, I was told to take only one vicodin every 4 to 6 hours. And yep, during the night I took more than one.
I think vicodin is a wonder drug for pain. Within minutes my pain was totally gone. I felt I was "healed". It was like a miracle.

I remember now, when I was in the hospital after surgeries I've had, the nurse coming in and giving me a pain pill. Telling me the doctor said I could have one pain pill every 4 hours. I would stare at the clock, counting down the minutes because that pill only really worked for 2 1/2 hours. Having them in your house, you can take them whenever the pain come back. I can't be trusted. I don't like pain.

So that's my story. I did go to the orthopedic doctor and he took more x-rays and told me that my knee was an accident just waiting to happen. That I need a full knee replacement. That thought makes me sick.

Glad you got yourself off it. Now to mentally prepare for the operation! These days such things are much better than they used to be, they have people up and walking the very next day. Have clients saying that they wish they had the op earlier, life changing. Good Luck.

Thank you Delta. All of this scares the liver out of me. I've had surgeries before, and been okay. I keep seeing them saw my leg off sbove and then below the knee, taking the knee out and inserting a new one. It's a lot to absorb into my tiny pea brain.
But thanks for reminding me what others say after "replacements"....I know that is true. They all say it was well worth it, and wished they had done it long before. It's just going to take me a while to let it all sink in.

It's taken five days but I think it's all out of my system now. Thank goodness. No more anxiety.

Any idea how long you have to wait before you get your surgery Jill ? You probably have medical insurance, so waiting may not be a factor, but for most operations I think it is the actual waiting that is the worse part. Once you have that behind you will soon be kicking up a storm with your knew joint ! All the best !
