I can't remember if I mentioned that I hurt my knee. After about three days of extreme pain, dh took me to the emergency room at the hospital. They gave me a vicotin, x-rayed the knee, wrapped it in a very expensive velcro cast and sent me home with a script for 20 vicodin, advising me to see an orthopedic doctor immediately. I took the vicodin....heavenly...for five or six days...saw the ortho...he gave me another script for vicodin (40). After about the 24th vicodin I began to feel...not good. I took one, then stopped. The first two and a half days I slept almost none stop. For the past five days I've had a problem breathing and had such anxiety I've had to take a zanex to get me through the day. It's been a terrible week.
Yes, I was told to take only one vicodin every 4 to 6 hours. And yep, during the night I took more than one.
I think vicodin is a wonder drug for pain. Within minutes my pain was totally gone. I felt I was "healed". It was like a miracle.
I remember now, when I was in the hospital after surgeries I've had, the nurse coming in and giving me a pain pill. Telling me the doctor said I could have one pain pill every 4 hours. I would stare at the clock, counting down the minutes because that pill only really worked for 2 1/2 hours. Having them in your house, you can take them whenever the pain come back. I can't be trusted. I don't like pain.
So that's my story. I did go to the orthopedic doctor and he took more x-rays and told me that my knee was an accident just waiting to happen. That I need a full knee replacement. That thought makes me sick.
