Just changing the leading thread really so I thought I would tell you what had my dear old friend who will be 90 next birthday , laughing her had off at me today after I had explained myself properly .
I had taken her for a coffee on my way home from work, and she asked me if I had a recipe for a pudding her mother used to make (yea.. I did give her a funny look, she's 90, how old would her mother have been, and just how good does she think my memory is !! Anyway,
she said, " Oh I wish I could remember how she made it , it was so delicious and so comforting during the cold winter months, and I have been fancying it quite often lately. She called Hungry Boys Pudding and I have been looking for it for years. " I said that I had not heard of it before, and I said that I could remember all the diffent puddings that my own mum used to make, and how sometimes I too wished Mum was still alive to make the ones called "Spotted Dick," and " Queen Pudding , " and then when I was describing a particular favourite of mine , I finished by saying, " Oh... it was so lovely , especially when mum used to put mam 'n jerang on top. That made it real special!.
My friend looked puzzled for a moment and then said, " I don't think we ever had that one, never got many exotic fruits in our house, it was usually stewed apples, or plums that we got , or just plain old marmalade.
It was only after I played what I had said back in my mind, that I realised I had said " Mam n Jerang instead of Jam and Merangue, and that to her that sounded very exotic !
Crumbs, and I had not even had a drink !
We both had a good giggle together over that gaff.
