Platform Clothing
written by bexkee , 15 August, 2007
I discovered this shop a couple of years ago, my friend and I have been regulars there ever since. They have amazing flattering cuts to suit all shapes (I'm an 'hourglass' figure and my friend is an 'apple') It's such a treat being spoilt for choice rather than settling for what fits. The staff are very knowledgeble and helpful too. They taught me about enhancing my attributes and disguising my "bad" bits. Being curvy gals they understand. They have 2 stores in Auckland, one in Botany Town Centre and the other in Dominion Road, (Mt Roskill end) They also have one in Central Wellington.
Long Island - Christchurch

I buy the majority of my clothes thru "Long Island" - 13 Stanley Street, Christchurch. They have their own web site, plus an outlet shop. I think them GREAT. The sizes go from the 'skinny' to us more healthy large ladies - up to a size 30!! I am a size 20-24: depending on the cut/style etc. and I think their clothes FANTASTIC.
The ladies in the shop are great too. They are so helpful and so hinest! They will tell you if things arenlt suitable and will also help you decide on colouing, styles etc....IF that is what you want! They also have a Mail Order - and can pay in various ways - so try them out... I can recommend them VERY HIGHLY!!

I found this shop online and they held some clothes for me until I visited NZ about a month later. Can't find their website but they're close to One Tree Hill. Really nice styles and fits, on par with TCD prices, maybe a bit less.

Been shopping here for years, lovely styles and cut of clothes. The clothes I've bought have been investment pieces I've worn for years after so are worth the pricey tags!

Peach Petone

This store has just been rebranded from Size-up and has a website. I shop there for most of my clothes. Marie and Liz are knowledgeable and helpful and take the time to khow their customers' taste. They have tops at just the right length. They sell their own brand, 'Peach' and other well known brands. A great place to shop
Farmers Lingerie
written by bexkee , 21 August, 2007
I went bra shopping last week, I usually don't have a huge amount of luck buying from a place like Farmers..BUT! I found a gorgeous powder blue bra and knicker set by 'Lyric' !!
I'm a 36 DD...It's one of the best fits I've ever had. It's really pretty and lacy, sheer mesh, but a sturdy number! I'm amazed at my luck quite frankly.
Stylish Connections

Found this woman has started a second hand and new plus size shop at her home in Invercargill. Clothes are top labels and half of them are new. Prices are affordable, especially when you have to watch the budget. She stocks mother of the bride stuff too and I got a worn once outfit for $65 when same outfit retail shop was $325!! She is trained in colours and bodyshape so I don't feel uncomfortable about my wobbly bits.

Fabrics
written by faye , 02 May, 2008
While I quite like the style and colours of most lines of clothing, it seems to me that the manufacturers do themselves a disservice by choosing to make a lot of their large sized clothing in polyesters and other acrylics. Do they not realise that large ladies have their own internal heating system and just can't abide wearing synthetic materials? I know I don't speak for all; some people always feel the cold no matter what they are wearing, but I and most of my friends want and need natural fabrics. I guess polyester is cheaper than cotton, but when shopping, I always feel the fabric, if it's a synthetic I won't even try it on. I have several polyester blouses in my wardrobe and I just never wear them.
There are, obviously, manufacturers who make garments in naturals, but they seem to charge an arm and a leg for them. I would love to find a line of clothing that is comfortable and affordable.

written by nfevola , 31 July, 2008
I shop online for plus size clothing and love www.AlwaysForMe.com for swimwear and lingerie. They have the cutest suits that fit to flatter and never feel like you are wearing your grandmothers togs. This site ships internationally and the customer service staff are more like girlfriends or personal shoppers than employees. Check them out!
Thank you so much

I looked at some of the websites recommended by some of the posters, wonderful products - I found the Pretty Woman prices very affordable.
I look forward to reading more comments about the best places to shop. BTW - I'm looking for a place that sells plus size pyjamas. If you can recommend somewhere that would be fabulous. Thank you :)
Zebrano - Newmarket, Lower Hutt, Wellington
written by scorpio diva , 10 October, 2008
I have been shopping at Zebrano for 10 years. High end exclusive fashion store, quality garments and is pricey but if you're on a budget, keep an eye out for sales. Also, they often put sale items on their website so pays to monitor it.
Great for unique trendy items for work or special occassion made out of gorgeous fabrics. I think many of the designers they stock cater for size 14 - 30. All my skinny friends are envious of my wardrobe! The service you get is second to none. They're always willing to courier items to me from all over the country on appro and, because I've been shopping with them for FOREVER, they will call me if something comes in that they think I'll like. If you check their website for new deliveries and like the look of something, they'll hold items for you when it arrives in store. They have a couple of designers that you can buy online. The Millhouse in Mt Eden is similar and stock many of the same designers and the ladies there are very nice too.

A first timer for me as well from Palmerston North - but more on the feet side
written by dawnjem , 16 May, 2010
Does anyone know of a place where a woman like me with size 9 (British size - US ??) feet can get a descent pair of black shoes without having them break on you. I have had two pairs of black shoes from a certain department store (name withhold) and because I kept wearing them over and over, the shoes snapped in half. The soil was thick enough, but the fwd motion of when I walk or lean over snapped the soil, and the shoes!
I need a pair of strong black shoes that does not cost the whole of my budget, but are worth wearing around and are comfortable. Help!!!
