I have been a member on a New Zeland Dating site for a number of years now and through the site I have made some wonderful friends both male and female. (No-one special to date :-))

Two weeks ago we got the upsetting news that one of the regulars on the site, who has become a friend to many of us, has been diagnosed with "Synovial sarcoma". This is a cancer of the muslce. In this lady's case it is in the muscle around her lungs. She started chemotheapy last Friday.

Now this lady is a solo mum with 2 children. She works full time to support her family and is always willing to step up and help friends out. 2 of us were talking saying we would like to raise some money to help her and looking at other ways we could help her. The support of the friends who have gathered around her has been heart warming :-).

So we have decided on 2 fund raising events to help her financial. At least we can take some of this stress away from her. The first event is being held on the 16th of September at Riccarton Market at noon. Three of us are shaving our heads!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We have been busy getting sponsorship off people and to date have raised nearly $900 in pledges :-) The response has been great and the comments interesting - mostly good on you but I couldnt do it!

The other event is an auction on October 27 at Aranui school.

For a few years now , more than I care to admit :-), I have worn my hair very short. It suits me and being a busy woman it is easy to look after. About 3 years ago I dyed it with the most amazing henna colour bright red. Very fiery and certainly suits me. I might add that this was a gesture after breaking up with a younger man who loved my hair grey, salt and pepper etc........ I loved the vibrant colour and it helped me gain some confidence back after that split.

Lately I have been wondering what it would look like completely natural and so when the opportunity arose I jumped at it.

A week and half out and I am wondering what my head will look like bald....... how it will feel when it's stubbly and what the colour will be when it grows back......... Salt and pepper I know but to what extent and how long will I be able to resist colouring it again

Mind you all this seems minor when I think of my friend and what she is going through........ and all the others who are suffering from Cancer at the moment.....

Blessed Be
Dawn

Ps if you're in Christchurch feel free to come along and watch me lose my hair :-) I will try and post some before and after photos on here when I have done the deed too
